Which player would you like to see take over from Luka Modric?

Unfair mate.
Once the Modric saga has been settled, and the player is either playing for us or has been replaced, we will see.
The knock on Hudd is that he reportedly (and it IS nothing more than a rumor) has an ankle issue that will require careful management for the rest o his career.
I personally thought he looked overweight during the pre-season games I saw. We'll see, but as much as I love the passing range he has, Hudd has never delivered a truly great season IMHO.

Admittedly I didn't watch any of the pre-season matches so if he is being sent out on loan to regain his fitness, then that would explain a lot. When I saw Jenas named on the bench and Tommy not even in the squad, I had the feeling that it was because AVB didn't rate him. Coupled with the article about THudd being loaned out, my understanding was that AVB rates a workhorse rather than a technical player. This was my source of my fear and led to my posting the above.

Understood mate, and admittedly I only saw the pre-seasons on telly in various places, but to be fair, he looked absolutely MASSIVE to me when I first saw him, in fact, I thought a fat Cameron Jerome was being given a run-out!

On a related tangent, I think fitness and a bit of pace/sharpness/nimbility (???) is a prerequisite of AVB's, and the second he came in, my mate Jonny and I said we felt that very sadly, Daws would not fit into what he likes to do. To me THAT'S a sad sad thing, especially as Daws is the club skipper AND the diplomatic face of the club with UA, but truth be told, I do not see anyone at Utd or City who are Daws-ish. I love his spirit and love his vibe, but if we can play the ball out of defense with skill and accuracy via Verts and Kaboul, or a.n.other, I will be delighted. PERSONALLY, I would keep him in the squad as there are times and moments where you need a 'Daws' (like Barca have Puyol) except Daws isn't Puyol!!!!! I have to say, I feel very very positive about where this squad could end up BUT (and it is a massive 'but') they need to work together, want to win together and play to instruction. It's a very continental way of acting and I sincerely hope we're up to the task...ironically, not finishing third last season absolutely cost us Edin Hazard, and he is absolutely the sort of player who would thrive under AVB IMHO. I only hope that perhaps AVB can unlock Dos Santos as a Spurs player...time will tell old friend, time will tell...

Really really hoping we pull a rabbit from the striking hat along the lines of Lewandowski (dreaming I'm sure) as well as Ade...still cannot help but wonder if we are looking at Berbatov, even though his, er, 'pace' and 'pressing game' (I'm being ironic just in case anyone wonders) don't suit AVB's way of doing things...

i dont believe this fitness thing at all

He tweeted about respect
Thudd is now on the chopping block

why would you send your own player out on loan to get fit with another team? wouldnt you want to oversee his treatment? and why cant he get games in our team if the aim is to make him fit? why leave him out of the squad altogether to which he says he is full fit anyway.....

no, avb doesnt like him. thats pretty much it IMO....nothing concrete but its what im feeling

i wonder if rose is going to be hanging around as he is our only other back up left back?

Rose can easily be loaned out assuming we have got Fryers tied up

Jenas is brick and should have been shipped out long ago so good riddance

Dawson looks like he will be 5th choice CB and, given he's at the peak of his career being 28, I dont see any point having him sit around in the stands for a couple years and then flogging him for £2m when he's turned 30 and not played for 2 years. Take the £10m now

Thudd....I would like to see us keep him. Very creative player and quite unique for a British CM now in that he can pass the ball. Going to Stoke would just be bizarre - think we should keep him til Jan and see what happens

Emmanuel Adebayor set for Tottenham switch as Fernando Llorente close to Premier League move

Fernando Llorente could join one of two Premier League suitors — one from Manchester and one from London — as it emerged Emmanuel Adebayor is set to quit Emirates Marketing Project for Tottenham Hotspur this week.

Spurs and City had previously broken off talks over Adebayor, who scored 17 goals while on loan at White Hart Lane last season, since his wage demands exceed the London club’s budget.

However it appears City are now willing to make a significant one-off contribution to compensate for the reduction in Adebayor’s future salary if Spurs meet the Premier League champions’ transfer-fee valuation.

Meanwhile Llorente, the Spain international forward, looks certain to quit Athletic Bilbao this summer and has received a number of offers from across Europe. However his agent, Carlos Arino Bajo, told the Daily Telegraph yesterday it is “very, very possible” the striker will be on his way to England.

"Tomorrow [Wednesday] Llorente will speak to his destination,” Arino Bajo told Telegraph Sport. “It is very, very possible he will decide to go to the Premier League. I don’t know the [choice of] club at the moment but there are two [interested] clubs. One is in London, and one is in Manchester.”

Arino Bajo refused to identify which clubs have made contact with the player. However it is clear there are other interested parties: the agent had previously confirmed to the Italian daily Corriere dello Sport that Juventus were among those to have made a play for Llorente.

Intriguingly none of the London or Manchester clubs would disclose an interest on Monday. It is possible that if any do covet the forward they would prefer to maintain a public silence until they are aware of his intentions.

Much-flouted transfer regulations stipulate that clubs must first reach agreement with existing employers before approaching the player himself. That first regulatory hurdle is unlikely to have been cleared so far: Bilbao have until now responded to any approaches by stressing that there is a €36 million buy-out clause in his contract.

However, as the transfer window advances towards closure it is likely English clubs have calculated that Bilbao’s negotiating position may weaken considerably amid an unfolding Spanish financial crisis.

With Manchester United having already enlisted Robin van Persie without yet dispatching Dimitar Berbatov, the recruitment of a sixth striker at Old Trafford would appear unlikely. Emirates Marketing Project seem similarly well stocked for strikers but might perhaps re-enter the transfer market when the protracted Adebayor negotiations are concluded.

Even if he secures Adebayor’s permanent transfer, Andre Villas-Boas would still have only the Togolese and Jermain Defoe for senior strikers, and Llorente might subsequently emerge as a target if he remains available until August 31.

Arsenal have long insisted that Van Persie’s replacements have already been taken on, with Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski having arrived this summer. Arsène Wenger made plain that any future transfer business will surround midfield or defensive players, but if Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh are both permitted to depart the Emirates Stadium it might alter that view.

Chelsea would for now seem Llorente’s likeliest destination in the capital, given that the departures of Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba have left the European champions with only Daniel Sturridge and Llorente’s Spain-international colleague Fernando Torres as recognised senior forwards.

Tottenham target £12m Roma playmaker Pjanic as Modric replacement

By Sportsmail Reporter

PUBLISHED:07:09 GMT, 21 August 2012| UPDATED: 07:09 GMT, 21 August 2012

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is lining up a £12million deal to bring Bosnian international midfielder Miralem Pjanic to White Hart Lane from Roma.

With Luka Modric set to leave Spurs for Real Madrid, Villas-Boas is keen to bring in the 22-year-old playmaker to the club to add creativity to his midfield.

Roma captain Daniele De Rossi is set to announce that he will resist overtures from Emirates Marketing Project to stay at the club and that news - according to the Evening Standard - means that Roma are prepared to let Pjanic go.

The Italian side paid Lyon £8.6m for Pjanic only last summer, but new coach Zdenek Zeman needs to sell before he can buy - and Spurs' interest has tempted the club to cash in.

Villas-Boas had made Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho - who he coached at Porto - his No 1 target but the club are not prepared to meet the player's £25m asking price.

Pjanic's ability to play in a deep or advanced role fits in with Villas-Boas' plans to get Spurs playing with more fluidity in midfield and he is looking to wrap up a deal before the transfer window closes this week.

Have to admit to not knowing much about Pjanic, looks a similar build to Modric though.

If Llorente and Sahin go to Arsenal - I think it would be fair to say they can elevate themselves from Top 5-6 contenders to possibly Top 3-4 contenders.

Weheras we're Top 6 challengers at best - at this moment in time, bar potential signings

I sincerely hope we are the London club intereted in him - what a signing that would be

The clear-out of Tottenham players who have fallen out of favour under the new Andre Villas-Boas regime is expected to begin with Michael Dawson, for whom Queen's Park Rangers have offered in the region of £8m to sign this month.

Dawson has also been a target for Stoke City but it looks as if Tony Pulis is going to take another Spurs England international, Tom Huddlestone, on loan this week after he too has found himself left out of the plans of Villas-Boas. Neither Dawson nor Huddlestone were part of the squad that travelled to Saudi Sportswashing Machine for Saturday's opening Premier League game.

Despite having served as a captain under previous manager Harry Redknapp, Dawson has found himself largely ignored during pre-season. He suffered two serious injuries last season, the second, a rupture to ankle ligaments in March, curtailing his entire season. At 28, however, he is now fit and still represents an attractive proposition on the transfer market.

Huddlestone has also suffered with injury in the past 15 months, and played just four times last season, but he is now back to full fitness. He has been given few chances to shine in Spurs' pre-season, even in the absence of Scott Parker through injury and with the uncertainty surrounding Luka Modric's future.

There is no way we are getting Llorente, he will go to blue scum.

That's what we need. Ex-players turned managers to buy our deadwood. Fergie's got half the league more or less in his pocket.

In interviews the other week Huddlestone basically said his ankle would never be right and would need to be "managed" (ala Ledley?) but he thought he should be able to play regularly.

Given that he hasnt played for a full year, and there are perhaps question marks about the durability of the ankle would it not make sense to loan him? Until Jan at least?

That said I can well imagine AVB just doesnt see him fitting into his high line/high pressing game.

That berk who's been going on about Llorente since Thursday is still rabbiting on about it, christ he nearly has me!
