Squad

Overall I believe the squad is well balanced at this stage, I think getting a fullback who is 1st team ready would make this an excellent transfer window. We often try for a surprise signing plus a youngster on the last day, it's nice to see so much enthusiasm on the site after the continuous depression and anger of last season. I'm pleased so far only time will tell.
Was worried about how we would look without Kudus, hopefully Simons will do enough for that not to be a big issue. Another quality attacker would perhaps be more the icing on the cake than a real shift in terms of balance.

Arguably missing a deep playmaker type, and some concerns about how we would look in big games without Palhinha. But with Gray and Bergvall looking like excellent talents neither is a big issue that requires quick action.

And absolute ton of physical attributes around the squad. Gotten thise additional technical players in, but they also have real physical qualities. Should make for a good balance while also having some standout strengths.

I don't know if I agree with your take regarding missing Palhinha. Yes Gray is there but he's not currently half the player or even half as effective as Palhinha in the role. So if we were to lose Palhinha for any significant period the drop off would be considerable and noticed. I don't think we have a solution for that other than just hoping Gray gets up to speed as quickly as possible because I don't really see any appetite for an additional DM to be brought in and there isn't really the space for one anyway.

I also think a press resistant technical attacker on the left hand side would elevate us significantly as we see the way Kudus has already done so on the right. In games where we can expect to have the lions share of the possession and momentum a player of that ilk on both sides because a much bigger need. The addition of Simmons mitigates it somewhat as he ups the quality of the intricate play considerably but players like him work best paired with other players of similar quality and mindset.

It is a process though, so as time goes on the younger players we've bought will either develop into what we need or we will add those players in future windows hopefully. It's a decent start and one of most technically rounded Tottenham squads I've seen.

Perhaps we agree more than my post gave the impression of.

I agree missing Palhinha, it would bring us back to Bentancur and Gray, same as last season. Wasn't great.

Somewhat similar with regards to Kudus unless we bring in another quality wide forward.

But we don't have a real lack of balance as a starting point. We're not relying on young players like Gray, Odobert and Bergvall to step up to not be unbalanced. If they step up, or we sign someone else we could be balanced even with insignificant injuries.

Our current squad:

Archie Gray – 19
Lucas Bergvall – 19
Kōta Takai – 20
Mathys Tel – 20
Wilson Odobert – 20
Xavi Simons – 22
Destiny Udogie – 22
Antonín Kinský – 22
Pape Matar Sarr – 22
Radu Drăgușin – 23
Brennan Johnson – 24
Micky van de Ven – 24
Pedro Porro – 25
Djed Spence – 25
Dejan Kulusevski – 25
Mohammed Kudus – 25
Brandon Austin – 26
Kevin Danso – 26
Dominic Solanke – 27
Cristian Romero – 27
Rodrigo Bentancur – 28
James Maddison – 28
Yves Bissouma – 28
Richarlison – 28
Guglielmo Vicario – 28
João Palhinha – 30
Ben Davies – 32

When you consider that this will be Davies' last season I would suggest that the club has the right mix when it comes to age profile.

I wonder if there's a 26 year old anywhere in the league, or any league for that matter, that has played as few games as Brandon Austin? He has played 20 games in his whole career, 1 for us, 14 for Viborg and 5 for Orlando City.

I don't know if that is demonstration of extreme loyalty or lack of ambition.

I guess he will play til he's 40, no wear and tear there!

Gray has only played 1 and a bit games at DM - Burnley and a little bit against PSG. Remember the speed Bergvall grew a year ago when he got a bit of a run in the team. I'm not saying he's going to become a world beater in a few weeks, but lets see over the next year or two

Personally I would have tried to get a movie to a club lower down the pyramid, but if he has no career ambitions he is at least earning a living.
