Squad

sounds like Kolo Muani is done.

Xavi off the left, Kolo Muani and Kudus up top.

Could be a great front 3 but we need someone to pass them the ball.
We need Simon's in the middle and he's a level above Maddison so Maddison isn't taking the middle once he returns and as much as I like Kulu I don't seriously see him usurping Xavi for that role either but it will be good to finally have depth in the creative areas.

I do largely like the work we've done in the squad this sun er. I proved the technical level in some critical areas. The attack which was super weak has jumped up some levels with the addition s of Kudus, Xavi and now Muani. I wish we could have gotten a LWF as well to really fill all the attacking gaps.

My priorities as stated before

RWF (Kudus)
CM (Palhinha)
LB
AM (Simons)

Striker was the next but I wasn't expecting anything so didn't bother thinking about it. So very happy to get one in and moreso a player I actually already rate in Muani.

After this the obvious hole is the LW and the LB but maybe we can address in the winter window.

So UEFA squad dilemma time

List A (20 Names, 17 Max)
Vic
Kinsky
Porro
Udogie
Romero
VDV
Danso
Takai (Surely Misses out?)
Gray (Misses out or moves to AT if Solanke doesn't make it)
Palhinha
Bents
Biss (Misses Out?)
Bergval
Sarr
Kudus
Odobert
Tel
Richi
Muani
Simons

Club Trained (4 max)
Austin

Association Trained (4 max)
Spence
Davies
Johnson
Solanke (if not fit, Gray can take an AT slot)

Injured, so not named: Dragu, Kulu, Madds

Did I get this one right?

I don't think Davies counts as association trained does he? I seem to remember that both he and Dier caused us that headache under Poch, as Davies was classed as Welsh association trained and Dier Portuguese.

I think looking at this squad now, the key characteric is going to be versatility.

Putting the keepers to one side, there's really only pahlinha, udogie and Solanke who are single position players out of the first twenty:

Porro - RB, RW
Romero - CB, DM
Vdv - CB, LB
Danso - RB CB
Davies - LB CB
Spence - LB RB
Johnson RW LW ST
Kudus - RW AM LW
Sarr - DM CM AM
Bentancur - DM CM
Gray - RB CB DM CM
Maddison LW CM AM
Kulusevski - RW AM F9
Bergvall - CM AM
Simons - CM LW AM RW
Odobert LW AM RW
Tel LW ST
Kolo Muani - LW ST RW
Richarlison - LW ST

That's a lot of talent in a lot of positions, and while I understand some are not as good as others in the roles they can play, it's a sign of our recruitment approach that we want flexible players.

This is likely the strongest squad since the halycon days of verts, Toby, walker, rose, Eriksen, Alli, dembele, Kane and Son, if we can get everyone fit at the same time.

Well, I don't think we're quite at that level because of the weaker first eleven compared to that one. That first eleven was the best since 1961. Any Spurs side is going to struggle being compared to peak Poch Spurs - that season in 2016-17 when we were blowing teams away for fun.

But the backup is a lot stronger than that group's was, for sure. I think I would phrase it as - weaker first eleven, stronger backups for squad positions 12 through 25.

Think we're a good shout for 5th-6th if we can avoid injuries, which would be a good start for Frank. :)

You ignored the word "since". 😬

We are not at that level, no, but this is as good as it's been since then.
