Son Heung-Min

counter attacking conte with kane deep and son overlapping is optimal son.
unfortunately not for harry so it had to stop!

Him look good.

Not unusual ..

- I think Son's dips tend to be when he's been overplayed (he's a high energy type player)
- I think it's no surprise he tends to look better when he comes back from injuries (rest?)

I also think the pushing one of the midfield 3 back (Sarr +Biss example), it gives the wingers a little more space, both Son & Johnson do well with space to run into.

That last point is so key. Feed Son and Johnson with early balls into space where they can use their pace to outrun defenders causes havoc when done properly. I was ecstatic that Sarr had both the vision and speed of thought to release Son for that 4th goal when he no doubt sent Todibo spinning dizzy like a kids toy.

Also, i think Son LOVES putting the boot whenever he can into West Ham...

What did people think of Son's reaction to being subbed today?

I personally thought he could have done a better job of getting himself off the pitch and helping his team mates get on with the game. He made it about himself rather than the collective. I get he was massively disappointed though. Human nature in that situation. The Sky commentary team seemed to be talking about his number being held up way before he made any motion to get himself off the pitch. I guess when you're trying to implement a new playing culture at the club, Ange will gently encourage him to think about the consequences of wasting our own time. I reckon there will be a bit of banter about his exit amongst the boys though.

Ange lives and dies by these tough decisions. Credit where credit is due to the manager for the subs he made today.

Every player should be fudged off when they get subbed, otherwise they don't care. The sulk just needs to stop about 5 mins after they've sat down, and it be aimed at himself, not the coach or player who has taken his place.

Yeah, agree that every player should be hacked off.

I've always felt that football makes too much of the substitution event. One player should run off and the other should run on like in rugby. When the player is set into his position, ref blows whistle. Not sure why they need all this attention, and why it has become a big deal time waster in the game.

I was wondering this recently too. There's no reason they can't just run off /run on like in other sports. They waste so much time don't they. Feels a bit outdated to pause the game for so long

The only surprise to me was that he looked surprised to be taken off. Ange made it pretty clear post game that this was preplanned. But perhaps Son thought the combination of him playing really well and the game being in the balance would mean that he stayed on for a while.

He was disappointed. It happens. Not really a problem imo. He symbolises professionalism with just about everything he does (looking from the outside). Accepting your premise that he wasted 20-30 seconds that the ref then probably wouldn't compensate for that's so far on the "exception, not the rule" side of things I think that should just be accepted.

Yeah - I wouldn't stop play for subs. Just have the number board clown shoe ref make sure the exiting player is off before the entering one crosses the line.
