Son Heung-Min

Assists can be one of the most misleading ones. You do a simple pass to a teammate who then dribbles, beats a man, shoots and scores and you are attributed with an assist....
Yeah
but for me the issue is he should have got a few goals today and also created more

I blame ange even kulu can't shoot now and he's much younger, while Son rightfully should be in a decline phase . Everybody in front of goal looks scared to shoot, as if something nasty awaits...

What i saw was that after son won, conte changed things up to favour kane scoring

What I saw was Kane just flatly refuse to put a shift in anymore in our colours. The problem for the manager was that he just kept on scoring even though Kane's assists completely dried up. The goals were a nice problem admittedly, but it meant that tactics had to change to accommodate the new Kane who would only touch the ball 30 times in a game. He stopped working and therefore he stopped showing for the ball like he used to. When Kane didn't score, he wasn't worth the shirt anymore.

All of this had a negative effect on Sonny who had to take on different responsibilities because of the golden boy when they played together. Kane was the chief Son assister before that. Then when Kane went to BM, we found ourselves without a number 9 for big parts of the season because of Richi's inability be fit. When Richi was fit, he had a goal contribution every 100 mins (goal or assist). Sonny was much happier, like he will be with Solanke (or Richi) because they really put a shift in for their manager. However, when it has been Sonny's turn to be the 9, I think we've seen that it doesn't suit him. He needs space to work in.

I guess we'll never know whether Ange would have been as weak as Conte, Nuno and even Jose with the senior player Kane who really needed to get a little kick up the arse about his work rate. I doubt it with Ange who saw, like the rest of us, that Kane was still doing his own thing in pre-season before the BM move late last summer. I think Ange was happy to keep Son, and lose Kane. Son was the right personality for the cultural change as well. Kane wasn't.

Not sure about favourite player, Sonny would have hated me if I played full-back behind him. He would have his arse kicked every game for how he leaves his defenders exposed. I have a feeling Sonny's defensive side would have improved though. :tearsofjoy:

Depends, he doesn't come back a ton to protect but he does press high a lot, so he protects in the best possible way (far away from our goal)

It's a tough one for a manager. It's similar to the EH situation at City...EH regularly has games where he does very little but put the ball in the net. Pep probably struggled with that to begin with but probably concluded 'oh well he's a goal machine' and we do need those:)...much like Kane.

Plus it's irrelevant if Ange was happy or not that Kane left. HK was captaining that ship.

On Sonny though, it'll be interesting to see if we adapt his role.
The absolute worst part of his game is receiving the ball in tight spaces, especially with his back to goal and centrally...hence a bad fit at no.9.

His best parts are the third man runs into space, and cutting in from the left (or right) into the half space and curling a shot. Some of his passing when in space can be good as well.

What's tough to call is how many times are we going to face 'park the bus' teams..as unless we are rapid with our play and take high risk/high reward options ...most of the time we'll be seeing Sonny receiving it faced up by one or two defenders out wide, and any wing wizardry he had is certainly declining (unless it's Trippier).

Thats why private jets makes sense for first team players travelling to internationals. Just like how top business execs travel in business class. You pay either ways, on or off the pitch . But FIFA should be collecting the tab to be fair to smaller clubs!

100%.

Post Brentford I was curious to see if there would be more of the same in different circumstances. Against Brentford particularly Maddison and sometimes Udogie seemed to go wide more often with Son coming inside earlier more often.

The red card meant we didn't get to see if that's going to be a thing now or if it was just the circumstances in that game leading to that.

Something to look out for in the United game.
