The spirit of the rule is that you might select a couple of 24 YOs who have just missed the cut-off (like Son), rather than random veterans.
Not if they're like us us Brits and call third rate randoms up

quick search says it's 21 months for Army, 23 for Navy and 24 for Airforce. I don't know how it's decided which you serve.
I also remember reading you can play for the armys football team during that time so perhaps we could loan him to the armys team for two seasons? Not that I think we'd be keen on that.
Will also be hard for him to choose when to do it. At the moment he's clearly a work in progress and if he was to do it too soon he'd miss some valuable development time. Leave it till he's 28 and chances are that he'll miss his peak.
Either way this will defiantly have a negative impact on his career.

That was my thought. Or just marry someone for a passport.Surely he'll be eligible for UK citizenship before doing his service!?

Not sure why they can't make exceptions for sportsmen/women and allow them to pospone it until their 30's.
No, but he may choose to.Even if he were entitled to UK citizenship it does not mean he would give up his South Korean citizenship, as long as as he has he will be liable to do national service

That progressed remarkably quickly!
Sad, but can't say I'm too surprised. His problems are varied but his inconsistency stands out.
It was said his foot condition would effect him for 9-12 months. I think we need to see fit Son before deciding on him.
