Son Heung-Min

That injury certainly seems to have affected him pace-wise. Remember a league match earlier in the season and his turn of pace reminded me of Bale. But since the ankle injury I havent seen him make a run that has had me thinking anything like. Hopefully his pace returns because that seemed to be his main attribute

Son alway wants to take an extra! extra! touch, which gives the defender time.
We saw yesterday what can be done with a controlled single touch, with Dortmund's excellent forth!
Son and Chadli do fanny about with ball! Rather than getting a shot off.

Edit Third...........just noticed @glorygloryeze - By that time I was losing count;)

Yeah, not to mention real competition for places. Last season Chadli's "competition" was Townsend... No wonder he's pushed himself a bit further this season. If he was really the least disciplined defensive player in years I think he would have been marginalized some time ago.

As for Son I completely agree too. I'm just saying that I'm slightly worried he hasn't progressed more in this regard already. A full pre-season and into his second season under Pochettino could do him great though.

I agree, but sometimes it happens that way and he did get a bad injury. As you say a full pre season under Poch and we may be looking at a totally different player next season.

I think he suffers from too many touches syndrome. But considering Poch has miraculously cured both Lamela and Dembele of this affliction I'm sure he can work his magic on Son too, given time.

This exists! I looked for a Wiki page but alas I couldn't find it. You should make a entry and I'll do one for the Scott Parker Pirouette.

12 months PL experience, some Summer strength training and a good pre season will see Son get back to his best. We saw flashes of it early doors prior to his injury so I have faith he'll get back there.

South Korea have confirmed that Tottenham forward Heung-min Son was not called up for their upcoming round of fixtures to allow him to contribute to Spurs title chase.

In return for their support as Tottenham chase a first English league title since 1961 South Korea hope to be able to name the 23-year-old in their squad for the Rio Olympics, which will take place from August 3-20.

“I think in your life, you have to look for win-win situation,” South Korea coach Uli Stielike said. “Hopefully, this is the case for Son Heung-min and Korean football.

“We've asked Tottenham to make Son available for the Olympics as a wild card, and in exchange, we offered not to select him for matches in March.

That sounds very sensible. I know some people worry about player burn-out and injuries, but any player should have the right to represent his country. A run to the business end of the Rio Olympic tournament would be a highlight of Sonny's career...

...just behind his Premier League winner's medal, of course!

Also not bad because he's not going to the Euros like most of the rest of our squad (along with other non-Europeans Lamela and Bentaleb); and the next Asian Cup isn't till 2019

Doesn't he have to win at the Olympics or Asian Cup to avoid a Military call up? seem to recall that being one of the loop holes...

He needs a full preseason with us imo - hasn't looked like the player he did before his injury and I'd want him here over the summer to help get him back to his best

I think he'll miss the last week of pre-season and the first week of the season, as the Olympics are the 2nd and 3rd weeks of August

plus a couple of weeks prior to the tournament in a national training camp?

Exactly.
Son really missed the Poch pre season this year that everyone else had (Wimmer, Alli, and Alderweireld were all there for the first week onwards).
There's a reason he has only lasted 90 minutes 3 times for us in 32 games.

Not a fair deal, IMO. Son wouldn't miss any of our games for the international matches in March. Whereas he will be unavailable for us for the first few week(s) of the next season if he goes to the Olympics (as others have pointed out).

To quote a line from a very old TV advert..."What a refreshing change"

But he stays fresh & isn't jet lagged from all the travel, that will surely help.

Pretty much. I don't mind this, and I think it's helpful of the South Korean FA to make this offer. If Son's summer training is a bit disrupted by the Olympics, no biggie: we do have other wing-forwards we can start next season with.

Of course, if we decide to persist with im as our backup fuxcing striker, then things might get ugly. But hopefully that won't be the case.
