Son Heung-Min

Loads of players are 95% fit, or 90, or 85, who knows where each one is each day, not us.
Yea there’s even quotes from Klopp on that about Sturridge when he first arrived in England. Basically moaning that Sturridge only wanted to play when 100%, but no professional player is ever really 100%!

re Son unfortunately we didn’t have anyone to replace him with until recently, as Richy and Moura were properly injured themselves.

Could have moved Perisic there and there have been countless times he was picked when we had cover and maybe should not have, its not so much the playing under 100% its the fact we could have probably rested him regardless because he was in poor form

I would have done that, I would also have tried Gill more as well, but it’s clearly not something Conte would consider. He wanted more like for like replacements for Son.

I’d have played Spence more as well, having him ahead of Doherty in the pecking order. Would have liked a creative midfielder also…

but we can only discuss the options that Conte would actually consider or use and that’s Richy or Moura (now Danjuma) to replace Son.

I doubt many players start games at 100%

It's one of the hidden horrors of professional sports, most players carry some kind of knock for large periods.

I've always felt Son was a high energy player that benefits from a rest (in the past it typically came from injuries), I think as a senior player he's also started to put mental pressure on himself to deliver.

Nothing wrong with giving him some time off now, get him a reset. Although to be fair to him, might be interesting to see how he does with Davies sitting behind him.

I've loved Son for so long but I'm pretty much out of patience now.
Hoddle is spot on. Son isn't even in a place where he's thinking about what he's going to do next with the ball. He's just worrying about getting it under control, not making a mistake.

Terrible all season. I know he's at his best when we are winning and teams are attacking us (Which hasn't been too often this season!) But still... He's completely gone.

Every team has attacked us this season, thats the problem.

We should've faked an injury and let him go home for a few weeks or something. I dont know if it's all in his head or if he is carrying an injury but he seems broken

The problem with Son is that he only has two methods of scoring. He gets goals on the break and he gets them when afforded space around the D. He doesn't score with his head, or with his back to goal. Oppostion sides have worked him out.

Agree, much better impact player now off the bench for that reason and probably a reason why he always shows up against City to an extent

Ironically, he's killed Conte's time at the club.

Conte had such ludicrous faith in him that he started him gave after game for 40 games, even in his present run of absolute misery, until Richy finally snapped and basically called Conte a clown shoe live on air for how he's been treated.

Sonny is not at fault here - he can't control it, he's just declined and it shows. But because he starts every game, he's a symbol of Conte's rigidity and his dogmatic devotion to his starting 11/absurd favoritism. And he will be what brings Conte down.

This current Conte and Son situation reminds me of Poch and Dele back in 2019.

A manager continually playing and desperately hoping one of his star performers can rediscover his previous form despite a mountain of evidence that it just ain't happening.

Let's hope Son's career doesn't go the same way as Dele's.
