Son Heung-Min

The big one was when he got the ball with nobody near him and it took him about 5 seconds to get it under control and allow Grealish to get back and win the ball.
Last year he'd be away and in on goal.

Him letting that bounce was criminal. He just needed any first touch there, it didn't have to be great, to get the ball into the big space City left in behind. Unbelievably bad.

Another moment that was telling for me was the great chance where Perisic should've made it 3-2 to us. Kulu got the ball and Son had a standard run to make between the two defenders that would've given Kulu a ball into the middle with Son having a one on one chance. Son basically hid himself between the two defenders, it looked to me as though he didn't want the ball there, effectively being afraid to miss. Luckily Kulu (being the bloody good player he is) carried the ball and waited for something to present itself and we probably ended up with an even bigger chance anyway but it is a huge worry when one of your forwards is trying to avoid getting goal scoring chances.

What is Conte thinking, both in terms of starting Son repeatedly despite poor performances, and also not subbing him off when it's clear it's not going to be his day?

Sad to see but he really has been poor for most of the season. No idea why/how the decline has been so drastic. He seems completly shot of all confidence.

Needs a rest, I have more confidence that this is a blip and as much exhaustion thing but he needs taking out the firing line and given a good refresher. We have the cover needed in his area,

Stubbornness + lack of options.

Stubbornness pre-WC, constantly playing him despite it being obvious he'd declined drastically.

Post-WC, Richy's been injured and Gil isn't a 'Conte' player.

I think Richy will take his spot soon. Only a matter of time until he's fully fit, and he offers far, far, far more than Sonny does now. Fight, graft, physical presence, energy, and ability in the air that would pair well with Perisic's crosses from the left + would allow us to hold the ball up more and relieve pressure, compared to Sonny's uselessness in that area.

Bizarre that Richie didnt replace him last night though. Son's completely ineffective at the moment. We're playing with 10 men

Well, I get the logic of it - the more forwards on the pitch, the better, and Sonny is a forward, albeit a terrible and basically useless one.

Agreed that it would have been more effective to juet swap him out, though. Having him on the field does nothing for us right now but sap our ability to construct anything.

Richie was unavailable for 7 games before the world cup as well.

If it is a commercial decision, with all the Koreans coming over/investment, I can't believe they are enjoying watching his demise. Give the bloke a break ffs. The only bright spot in the season was his substitute appearance against Leicester. Surely that is preferable for all concerned?

None of this makes sense. Sonny's the ultimate team player - he must know he's been rubbish, and I'm sure would take being dropped the right way. His dad's probably been telling him daily!

As I've said before, I love the guy. So must everyone else on here. He's got money in the bank as far as I'm concerned. Do I want rid? Nope. I just want him benched until he sorts his head out or whatever. Richi, Gil, even Perisic should be given a chance. 'Cos at the moment, the gaping chasm at LW is hurting us.

How can he be exhausted? He doesn’t do anything.

Pretty much played every minute of every game for the last 6 seasons including periods playing up to when Kane was injured. Between him and Kane neither have had a rest and one is physically broken although still banging in goals. Added to that the pressures that come with being a countries biggest celeb I think he is due a rest of body and mind

Hasn't had summer breaks at all? they get days off aswell and there are lots of players in the premier league that have played similar amounts of games that are still banging out decent performances. All i hear is excuses.

I don't have to give excuses for someone who has played for 350 games, scored 137 goals and has 51 assists for our glorious club

Much better to look at the bigger picture than to spout bile because he has not been up to the standard this year

Can you please define what you meant by 'He doesn’t do anything'?

Nobody on here, I hope, would say Son has had anything other than a terrible season, but he runs his gonads off every game, and has played through recovery fro a nasty facial injury, and been to the World Cup.

So when you say 'He doesn’t do anything' people will comment about what Son does. And again, he has been like a pub player who has won a competition compared to his usual standards.

It'd be really great if we could actually let Sonny play HIS game as opposed to this other one he's being asked to play. He is NOT a back-to-goal deep-dropping forward. And the reason he is having to do this more and more now is because Conte's 3-4-3 system in our club has been sussed, so we cannot play like we did last season. No wonder his confidence is shot. No wonder he's also knackered!!! He absolutely needs a break but not necessarily all on him at all.

Mate, don’t waste your time. He won the golden boat last season and it still wasn’t good enough. Only scores goals when we’re already winning, doesn’t do anything other than score. His and Kane’s goals down the stretch basically got us top 4 last season but he should have been benched whenever he played a game and dared to not score. Dier and Davies were our best players last season and Son and Kane are stealing a living.
