Set Pieces

We should sign Peter Whittingham from Cardiff........his delivery from corners is spot on........I know its the same for both sides but have you noticed how restrictive the space players have when taking corners at the Lane and how the pitch slopes down to the corner ,Eriksen needs a rugby tee of sorts to get any sort of flight on the ball and power because his corners hit the first man nearly all the time.

You wonder sometimes why don't they practice corners and free kicks at the staduim rather than at the training ground.

I don't understand how Eriksen can take free kicks so well but not corners?

edit: and surely the have a pitch at the training ground the exact dimensions of the WHL pitch?

In my life time we have never been any good at taking or defending corners. Barring the odd goal once in a blue moon, most of the corners don't clear the near post, and those that do are generally headed away unchallenged. For the sheer number of technically gifted players we've had over the years, it is simply staggering how inept the majority have been at taking corners. It is equally staggering how many giant players we've had who don't get anywhere near winning a header from a corner. When we get a corner we may as well kick it behind to let their keeper have a goal kick so we can regroup and not get hit on the break

Movement.

Exactly. For those who have never taken a corner, do you appreciate how difficult it is to put it on someone's head when there is no movement and our players are standing on the six yard line? Damn near impossible to get it between the goalie and defenders, if they are set up right. Clever movement is essential.

What with Eriksen' delivery from corners once again coming in for criticism, thought this thread could do with a bump...

Yeah there's been some discussion on other threads about the stark contrast in quality between Eriksen's FKs and his corners.

Both Lamela and Paulinho seem to strike a better corner so you'd think our Christian could instead be assigned to stand somewhere around the edge of the box for the chance to put away any scraps that might come his way.
