Roberto Soldado

Re: Official - Soldado

Hard, low crosses early between the goalie and the defence is often very dangerous. Timing is everything, and I have spotted more than once that our strikers very seldom seek the space at the first goal post - often standing still to wait for the ball to arrive. You won't score a lot from that lack of movement...

People moan about Lennon not putting in proper crosses, but balls played across the box on the ground are far more dangerous than those lofted ones.
Lennon tends to choose the wrong option, going lofting a cross when playing it along the floor would have been better and vice versa

Re: Official - Soldado

One thing we don't do and a lot of successful teams do is whenever they get wide or to the byline the players tend to cross/play the ball back towards the pen spot.....time after time. It seems to be profitable too, plenty of goals scored. Its something simple and obviously deliberately practised.

Re: Official - Soldado

Wonder if he would've gone to the WC had he stayed in Spain and scored 20 odd goals? Wonder if he feels he's poor form/adapting has cost him a WC?

Re: Official - Soldado

I don't think he would have gone anyway, even if he had stayed in Spain and scored loads

Costa, Torres and Villa were the favourites of the manager no matter what

Negredo, Llorente and Soldado all missed out, the first two had good seasons at their clubs and could easily feel outraged that Torres was chosen ahead of them

Re: Official - Soldado

He's probably glad he didnt go anyway, his stock would have been even lower if he was involved....

Re: Official - Soldado

good that he didn't go - Torres' continued failure as a striker will condemn him as a player and will surely affect his performance henceforth

Re: Official - Soldado

Cash in for sure but i doubt anyone will want to pay anywhere near what we paid. Maybe we can get lucky and a random Russian team bid for him.

Re: Official - Soldado

One poor season in the Prem won't write off a career of consistent performances in Spain - wouldn't expect his value to have dropped too far

Re: Official - Soldado

I agree with Billy he didn't play well last season but many of us think he will come good so I'm guessing other people do too

Do they really think he'll come good or do they just hope he'll come good? I couldn't see any club paying more than £13m for him as it stands, even if he has a 20 goal season his value still isn't going up as he'll be 30 by then.

spot on.

Re: Official - Soldado

Im not talking about coming good here - im talking about his value as a transfer target and how one poor season with us wouldn't be enough to dramatically reduce his value as teams from foriegn leagues will look at his career record rather than just the last season.

The last season is always the most important, I don't think Lamela's price will have dropped much but Soldado is 29, his value is only going one way. I didn't buy Soldado but I imagine the people who did knew full well that his value would only depreciate from that point but was worth it because they thought he would guarantee instant return - which he obviously failed to do. I hope Soldado really did only cost £13m, if it was the full £26m which is widely reported everywhere else bar the Telegraph then that's at least £13m we'll never see again.
