i think the best sporting events - across all sports - should be devoid of any political agenda.
sure cheating to win has to be frowned upon - because that's fundamental to competition.
as greenwood has not been convicted, I have not born any ill will towards him. i won't want him to come near me or my family but I appreciate him for the sportsperson he is. likewise de zerbi, i see no fault in his comments - just that plenty in the UK like to hold that moral high ground position.
there are other things that sports need to sort out to level the playing field - perfomance enhancing drugs, corruption and gender equality issues and that's enough for the organizers who are often non-profit (and because of that in the best position to sort those issues out).
but i would like to see sports be a place where humans can come together to jump higher, run faster etc,. even better if ex-convicts can use it to rebuild their lives and integrate back into society. pedophiles even - let them compete but have other means to tackle their evil e.g. lists ... or the crowd etc.
back to de zerbi - glad he is here. glad to see he is unapologetic about his stance around greenwood. its a nothing burger that UK fans are making a big deal about. but it shows the character that he is and he will be firm about bringing his identity to the team and hopefully to management who are appearing more clueless by the day (lange just admitted failure to get de zerbi after ange).
100% for de zerbi and hope he gets teh DoF and CEO he needs (goodbye to Lange first) to keep him going.
