Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

I think it's very hard to accurately gauge how De Zerbi's appt is going to work out until the summer.
These 7 games coming up are going to be simply a test of how much he can make the players remember they're decent players and feel confident again. I suspect there's a core he will look to for that, Gray, Porro, Romero, VdV, Vicario, Richarlison, Palhinha, Gallagher. I think if gets Bentancur back he will be all over that. Of course, a returning Kudus will be up his strasse too. I am interested to see how a striker like Solanke will do under him. I think that is the core he is going to lean on heavily these last 7 games.

I have to say too I am a little alarmed at just how much freedom they are reportedly giving him, in terms of signing power, etc. I mean, he is getting the full monty! Or is it just carte blanche on paper?

I will say it must be scary for the clubs around us to note that we appear to have hit our bottom a while ago,De Zerbi signs on as new manager and we still aren't in the bottom 3? I think he'll keep us up.

Let's be honest it will be the same as the last 25 years or so
ENIC saying all the right things to new managers then the usual ENIC behaviours will come out when he wants a player and ENIC are like er no

Thing is, the criminal investigation was only dropped because the key witness refused to testify.

As for Man Utd, suffice to say there was enough evidence for them to ensure he never played for them again.
That isn't accurate. You don't know whether there was a "key witness" and who they were. Nor does your view tie in with the official statement from CPS which cited new material that came to light and withdrawal of witnesses (plural). Which goes to something more fundamental than simply someone refusing to testify. The fact that the Man Utd statement refers to the material posted on social media not psinting the full picture and not evidencing the crimes MG was accused of, suggests tbat there was something misrepresentative about the videos and audios posted online which additional material not in the public domain evidences. Fundamentally none of us here know the facts of this case enough to justify the strong stance people have chosen to take.

...on both sides. It's not mutually exclusive to one side. To be clear.
Well it pretty much is mutually exclusive because one side has chosen to turn this appointment into a complete circus based on a strong moral position and by accusing others that don't take that position (such as Mr De Zerbi himself) of being *insert whatever derogatory/accusatory text here*

Could someone interested in continuing the conversation around sexual violence perhaps start a separate thread for this widening discussion which seems to be further and further removed from anything to do with our new manager? Maybe someone can start one in the Cheese Room area and this discussion can be taken there?

I’m not trying to be flippant, and I honestly don’t want to offend anyone, but I come into this thread hoping to read and comment about De Zerbi and don’t want to to wade through 10 off topic conversations to get to a relevant one.

Thanks in advance.
And by default I’m offended. Always has to be a way I can find to be offended. I’m trying my hardest all the time to nit pick without perspective so I’ll start a thread for people like me who have never said or done anything wrong, offended by everything but never done anything wrong ever.

Yeah, we’re talking about it because it hasn’t appeased a lot of people. The club could very simply have avoided it if they’d just prepared it a bit better.
This seems to be the requirement nowadays. We want a contrived truth instead of something that comes naturally. No he hasn’t appeased everyone but from this Italian speaker his words came across as honest and heartfelt to me at least. I’d much rather hear something honest than watch him deliver a perfectly scripted PR statement that ticks every box, like a hostage reading a prepared message from a bunker surrounded by his kidnappers.

Well said

January being the biggest example of that as we know !!
Said it at the time, I won't be drawing any conclusions from January and will wait until the summer to judge. As much as most were complaining about not enough signings in January considering our position, we can't afford to just spend for the sake of getting bodies in. We were in the unfortunate position of wanting to upgrade but not being anywhere near attractive enough even though we were willing to offer bigger wages than normal.

As much as you can argue we just needed bodies, we signed Gallagher for just that who has made naff all impact - if we made 3 or 4 of those types of signings then we are in big trouble as we would be back in the situation that we've been in the past where we are struggling to get players off the books.

I'm not excusing the board, I'm just saying that the January window was not easy even if willing to go the extra mile with wages etc - I won't draw proper conclusions until the summer window....

It does occur to me that our society nowadays want to make Roberto's clumsy words worse than Greenwood's horrible acts. They don't want to accept an apology because it doesn't suit their own agenda. I'm totally with @Mikey10 in that this entire topic should either be parked or moved over to another thread. This thread should be about RDZ, the football manager.

What I'm most interested in is how RDZ bridges these 7 games before getting stuck into the real work in the summer. How does he find some quick wins (literally) and get something organised? I'm hopeful Tudor at least got the squad fitter. I'm also hopeful Roberto will get the maximum amount of players fit as possible. I'm thinking about the impact guys like Bergval, Kudus and the more short term injuries of Biss, Sarr and Tel. If we have those 5 in place by next weekend then that is massive.

Then it is really how Roberto bridges the GK situation. I'm thinking that culturally the RDZ / Vicario relationship could be a big part of this next 7 games. 2 Italians both being Italian together. Roberto will probably get stuck into him in that Italian passionate way. Vic will probably respond positively and we might see the best of him.

We needed bodies though and we were in the start of the slide.

The selling BJ and bringing in a CM when we had a glut of them and only then one fit RW made little to no sense

We can call it a dreadful window because it was

We may well go on to have a record window in the summer, but Jan was shoite

Sure, you can call it whatever window you want, there's a reason every club not just Spurs says how difficult January window is - then compound that with as you say just needing bodies, easy to say just get anyone in when you're not going to be the one having to deal with trying to get rid of them.

All I'm saying is I'm not properly judging them until I see what they do in the summer window. Even if we had got in a load of average players (because that's all we could attract in our position) no one would have been saying how that signifies a new never seen before ambition from the board. Let's see what they do in the summer (if we have PL status of course), if it's more of the same then yes nothing is ever going to change....

Then dont get rid of one of your only 2 fit RW for a system that relied on wide players and stockpile another CM. Im cool with the take TBH

No one can predict the future, but if their first big summer is in the Championship then thats going to tell its own story about them
