No, but he's also the one who got us from lower mid table mediocrity to feeling a season outside the top 5 is a downright disaster. Some perspective.Do you think that Levy has made us a better football club over the past five years?
Somehow I doubt that was the case.
DunnoSomehow I doubt that was the case.
Tel not wanting to sign for us is systematic of the problem. We have needed to sign outfield players ever since before the transfer window opened. So far we have signed zero. We have failed to find a solution to a pressing need and that immediately leads to the asking of big questions about how Levy and the transfer committee conducts their business.
Tel, if considered a target in that alternative scenario of our being more successful, would more likely have been keen to sign for us for the exciting project that he would have seen and not the sinking ship that we are in reality.
Those questions will have a serious bearing on whether players will want to join. And as we can see, we don’t seem to be all that irresistible right now.
We move on
That’s fine
There are many players out there and I’m genuinely not convinced this was all it’s been cracked up to be. So little of our business has been so “public”
Bayern didThis is the ONLY bit which does not line up for me. WHY was this so public and WHO made it so???
Two separate issues
- Us not buying until now (if we do) is a problem
- Tel is clearly an opportunistic look, unless you think United/whoever else that is suddenly involved was also sleeping on him? he's a Bayern prospect that is frustrated with game time, opportunity came up, we made a go and offered asking, player declined.
Real Madrid & Barca are the only irresistible clubs in the world, we are more than a stepping stone (like a Brighton) but not quite elite, VDV, Porro, Vic, Bergvall, Udogie all got national team call ups and way more recognition in a very short space of time, players like Solanke & Maddison got back in from the cold (Maddison due to his own form lost it again). There is a story to tell, is it like City where we pay you a ton of cash and you win trophies even if you get splinters in your ass? no .. but that's fudging Lange's job.
But had we pushed on from the time in which we reached the CL Final would we not be in a position to attract the best? The comparison often drawn is to look at Liverpool’s journey compared to our own from when we beat them in the 2017/18 season. Our trajectory has been mostly downhill whilst they have moved from strength to strength.
The reasons for that are many but in part must be considered linked to the footballing ambition of the club. Why did we not sign players during those key transfer windows? Why do we seem to be lacking investment in key areas all too often? Why when Kane left did we leave it a year until we replaced him? I’m not buying that Richarlison was Kane’s replacement. As that would still have left us short.
We shouldn’t be reliant on opportunistic signings. Where are the other outfield signings that we clearly needed to make?
It’s not all defeat but we do need to review the way that the club operates. We have signed many exciting players over the last few years. Indeed comparing our strongest starting team to that which Conte had the teams are so different and I believe we have a stronger lineup albeit we now have no Kane.
I think those in charge need to use now as the platform to push forwards from. The sliding doors moment in which we either show true intent, bring in not just the best stadium and facilities but look to create the best football team to use these, and show to the World that yes, we had a few lean years, but we are not to be written off and that we as Tottenham Hotspur can work towards becoming once more one of the top contenders, and after a long long time out of it, the best team in the land.
Maybe all of this is just a dream that can never be realised but we should be able to dare to dream, and if we can dare to dream then can we, could we, dare to do.
100%He comes if the money is amazing … that’s my hunch … players don’t often turn down big money deals
Not what Ange would want though is it. We've had mercenaries before, such as Ndombele and it's rarely good news.He comes if the money is amazing … that’s my hunch … players don’t often turn down big money deals

I don’t think any manager takes a player who isn’t 100%One example not really a measure is it. And yes if he thinks he is worth more money then why accept.
Don’t think Ange is wrong for having that ethos I agree with it … but he may not be around any longer

I'm sorry but this is revisionism, Ndombele wasn't a mercenary. Yes the move did not work, absolutely a failure but he didn't joing purely due to money. He joined because at the time we were an exciting prospect and one of the up and coming teams on the verge breaking through to the top table. That it didn't happen is well documented but let's not change history to suit a new narrative. Not what Ange would want though is it.
