Pedro Porro

We've got a Here we go already?! That happened quickly :)

He's not said anything out of turn there, and at the end of the day Real is the pinnacle for most players let alone Spanish ones. If Real want players of ours then we are doing something right.....

For sure, not knocking him but can just see another summer where Real will do their usual antics at getting a player.

Agreed. Was only a matter of time before links to Real or Barca started popping up with how well he's done.

Good problem to have.

Thought he was shocking defensively today. He’s so poor on the basics of defending and it looked today like Palace were targeting him second half. He’s very good on the ball to be fair, that pass to Richy was exquisite but as a defender…good Lord he’s very poor.

Thought we saw the worst on our left side myself
Destiny still can’t pass well to get out and VDV had any other away day mare

Porro is in the team for one thing and one thing only - his supporting runs. He is fine as a wing back when the opposition is scared of us and fall back. To me, he looks like someone who's played mostly upfield but have been pushed back to gain play time. That's not saying he cannot defend, but I don't see more of a defender in him than in any other midfielder. I've said before that he might be a Gareth Bale, better suited as a flank/wing. A Brennan Johnson but with crossing abilities.

Thought they were poor too but Porro was all over the shop and letting players in behind him.

Dunno what’s happened Destiny. Thought he looked a Madrid/Barca player at the start of last season. Looks very poor since his injury. Him strolling back for the goal was rage inducing for me.

He is a converted midfielder

It doesn't help that him and Johnson have absolutely no relationship down that side. They don't combine at all. Johnson doesn't help and double up. Kulu and Porro was a much stronger combo.

No rest and possibly unfit

And on the sides Porro had no support from midfield
Kulu was gash
Sarr starting would have fixed so many issues

Udogie did not have a good afternoon, but the entire defense insists on making life hard on themselves by employing the stupid high risk play-out-from-the-back. We do NOT have the required passing abilities or even awareness to do that successfully, other than against the most timid opposition. I thought I saw improvement in that area a while back, but now we have regressed to main.

I've thought he's been good defensively in the main, today especially he was poor though - but of course with the way we play you'd have to be an amazing full back to be great going forward and still look great defensively on a consistent basis....

Funnily enough, I do think he’s improved defensively under Ange. But he’s still so poor on the basics. Ball watching, not able to jockey properly…he is a good ball player though. That I’ll give him.

Udogie has no player challenging him for start it’s what brought the best out of rose and Davies

He was indeed a failed winger who moved backwards to play WB before Ange has started him at RB.

His defensive performance have ebbed and flower, he awful under Conte and pretty decent last season. Even last season he's had some good and bad games purely in defensive terms.

Yeah, it reminds me of the Walker/Lennon conundrum where both wanted to do the same thing, leaving the other to dry. You could even argue that Porro is a tiny bit more disciplined.

That explains a lot. I don't think we can expect too much of such a player, so all things considered he's doing pretty well.

Johnson the guy directly in front of him rarely ever gets involved defensively. Porro mostly defends by himself or supported by Romero which often then means Romero has vacated the middle.

I imagine Ange wants Johnson upfield to run rather than deeper, no real point playing to him if he's not in space. It does leave our right side fairly open when you add Porro's naivety at times.

He is, often he's overloaded and Johnson is jogging back slowly in the distance.
