Paulo Dybala

Son and Moura are better players. Dybala is overrated.

My thoughts exactly! The kid offers little to no work rate and is a puny little thing. His impact on the Premier League is very much 50-50.

I cannot bring my mind around the fact that many of the posters who are advocating his purchase are the same ones who have dissed any Zaha interest when the latter is cheaper and has a track record of doing it in the the EPL!

Zaha isn’t cheaper

They want £80M for him

Hard to compare across different leagues but one is slightly better than a 1 in 3 attacking player while the other is slightly worse than a 1 in 6.

No disrespect mate, but that is utter tosh. One is playing in a crap league - where the speed of play is tortoise-like - and in which his team has been utterly dominant to the extent that it has won the league - year in, year out - since recent memory. He has shown promise but he has not pulled up any trees, especially when playing the bigger teams in the Champions League. He offers no pace, is hardly known for any sort of workrate and looks as if he can be blown away with a gust of wind. The other has played in a crap team - actually in the Premier League - yet has consistently excelled against the top teams to the extent that the latter build their game plan on just stopping him. He has pace and strength and immaculate ball control and has shown he can do it on a snowy night in Stoke.

Yet the same people creaming themselves at the prospect of signing the former have regularly dissed the latter as a potential signing.

Now I am not saying that Dybala would definitely flop if he came to us or Manure, but on paper Zaha is a far better prospect for basically the same (or less) cost.

But then this has always been the Tottenham I remember... huge enthusiasm and continued support for continental flops like Rebrov and Soldado while disparaging and making life miserable for the Darren Bents and Chris Armstrongs...

It's not really a strange thought to me that some people would prefer the player with a much greater scoring (and assisting) record when comparing two attacking players.

I'm not particularly interested in either fwiw

It is rather... because you are comparing apples with cabbages. If you want to compare scoring and assists,at least look at Zaha's games against the top 6 and Dybala's in the Champions League. Unless you believe that playing with the likes of Benteke, Townsend, McArthur and Milivojevic is that much more beneficial to a player's stats than doing the same with Higuian, Manzukic, Pjanic and Betancour.

Zaha is hype he would not be a good fit for us. His scoring record last season looks ok because he played as a striker for at least half of it. He has great dribbling ability yes, but creativity is for himself not others, he has no particular vision when it comes to passing or seeing opportunities he is very much a ball hog. He isn't the free creating wide attacker people think he is. He's a very much worse version of Son with slightly better dribbling but much worse finishing and creativity.

I would be quite upset if we signed him, this team requires creators, we have the quality upfront already we just need to provide for them.

Zaha is not that player. Neither is Dybala in my opinion to be completely honest.

Zaha also flopped at the biggest club in the world under the best manager in the world.
Not a great way to judge imo. I would take zaha but not at the price they want for him.

There's a reason why at 27 Zaha has spent the bulk of his career playing with that level of player whilst Dybala is playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world - his record at Palermo was better than Zaha's first stint at Palace (better than his current stint also) and when given a chance at a bigger club he didn't flop.

I think that it would be worth going back in with a bid lower than Everton's. He's got very limited options now.

These are exactly the sort of disparagative comments I was talking about that I have heard ad nauseum when we are linked with players in unglamorous teams (I remember the same things said when we were linked with Ashley Young in his Watford days)

Since when was David Moyes the best manager in the world? Sheffield United have just bought a nobody striker from Swansea for 20 mill. The scum have risked 72 mill on a winger with a history of lasse fare and no guarantee he will settle into the premiership. Value is set by the market - not the player.

The only reason he has not moved on is because he was stupid enough, naive enough or badly advised enough to sign a new contract. Otherwise he would long have been playing in the Champions League

It's nothing to do with glamour I just don't rate him highly and coincidentally neither do any of the CL teams.

Now consider that Chelsea knew they had a transfer ban coming up and were very likely to lose Hazard yet they still showed no interest in Zaha in January. Mainly because he looks good playing striker for Crystal Palace but as a winger his end product is poor as is his creation for others, Evey top 4 team has better players than Zaha and are interested in a higher calibre of talent than him.

Everton suits his abilities, there he will still shine. At spurs he would be frustrating and he is not better than our starting forwards.

With Arsenal and Everton being his only real suitors it looks like the best he can aim for is EL for the time being

He isn't better than Kane or Son (but better than Moura) but he is different. He would bring a skill set that none of our players have... but then we've debated this ad nauseum in his own thread.

One final remark... we would have bought Zaha long ago if he had not chained himself with his contract. As @milo says... there may be an opportunity with his determination to leave Palace and the lack of suitors to make a deal....

I actually don't think he is better than Moura who is pretty decent but not top class. Moura has infinitely better passing in terms of technique, range and vision. He's a far better finisher also, Zaha is very wasteful. The only area Zaha beats him on is dribbling and that's mainly down to his superior upper body strength.

That's not a good enough reason to invest in him, he is worth a maximum of 35m to my mind.
