OMT - Tottenham v FC Basel, EL QF 2nd Leg

Nothing like a bit of overconfidence. Unfortunately they're now aware of this shrewd tactical move.

We have to put out our strongest team tonight. That means Lloris in and Dawson in from the start. Time sentiment with Brad in this competition has to go, it was fine earlier but we are in the 1/4 finals, and at this stage in it we must play our strongest team. We will have a decent break after tonight to rest up, so excuse of tiredness shouldn't be used, as they can give it all tonight knowing there is a decent rest coming.

Still think it will be tough. Can see us scoring, but with the way our defence have been playing recently I definitely see them scoring too. Hopefully Benny steps up and plays better then last Thursday to keep their tricky right winger quiet. Going to be tough, but we were up against it in Lyon and in Milan and we came through both times, hopefully wee can do the same again tonight. COYS

How do you ensure you can keep a top class no 2 goal keeper happy? either pay £££ or promise them cup games I guess.

Liverpool / Chelsea no 2s are crap - our No 2 is probably better than most teams no1.

not sentiment in my opinion - as long as you are happy fro a Turnbull equivilant next year when and if Lloris gets injured go ahead.

Are you out in Basel? Police have just advised us there will be free shuttle buses to take fans from the City Centre to the stadium tonight.
The buses will run from Paddy Reilly's bar on Steinvorstadt Strasse from 7pm to 8.20pm local time.

Classic. Travel abroad, spend the whole trip in the local Irish bar.

Massive game for Walker, we need an Alves-like performance from him tonight.

this.

Walker is the key, he needs to run at defenders and try to draw them at him. We also need to stop playing so tight in the middle and try more to make runs and play the through ball.

Until this point, even in the home leg, I have not really cared how we do in this competition. It's been more of an inconvenience, we've played 11 extra games because of it this season. But now knowing that we are 4 games away from a European trophy actually makes the romantic in me really want to win it. Plus, it would be marvellous to pull further ahead of Arsenal in this regard, and to reset our timer from 5 years to 0, while theirs remains at 7 years, 10 months, 20 days, 19 hours and 32 minutes.

In reality he will give away a free kick, which they score from, from pushing someone in the back like he does in every game...

But with this competition there has been a lot of games he has played in. I just think when it comes to this stage of the season, where every game is massively important, we should play our strongest team, and Lloris is a key part of that. Im in no way suggesting Brad is a bad keeper, but Lloris does make a big difference in my opinion.

BIG CHIV IN BASEL:

Martin Chivers is back on familiar territory in Basel - and our all-time leading goalscorer in Europe is convinced we can book a place in the semi-finals of the Europa League tonight.

'Big Chiv' scored 22 goals for us in 32 appearances in Europe and famously scored twice in the first leg - the second one of the best goals in the club's history - as we beat Wolves over two legs to win the UEFA Cup in 1972.

Now he's hoping to witness similar success from the current squad as we take on FC Basel in the quarter-final, second leg, having drawn 2-2 at the Lane last week.

"It's a tough game because we saw what Basel are capable of last week," said Martin, who has traveled out to Switzerland as part of the official party.

"They looked fast up front and created a few chances but credit to the players, they fought back, got a result and now we’ve got a chance.

"We know we’ve got to win - I can’t imagine it will be a 3-3 draw and we’ll win on away goals – and it’s a challenge but let’s nick a goal, we’ve done it before.

"This is a happy group, which I love to see, and anything is possible when you start level in a one-off game."

Martin scored 174 goals in 367 appearances for us between 1968-76 and proudly sits third in the club's all-time list behind Jimmy Greaves and Bobby Smith.

His career took a completely new turn on departing Spurs as he joined Swiss team Servette, where he fought a title duel with FC Basel in the 1976-77 season.

"We were leading the championship all the way only to finish up level on points right at the end in June," he recalled.

"We had to have a play-off and they nicked it 2-1. In fact, we finished runners-up in both my seasons here but made up for it with the League Cup and the Swiss Cup.

"My last game for Servette was winning the Swiss Cup against Grasshoppers and Christian Gross, a name from the past!"

Martin, a regular at the Lane as a popular Matchday Host, is thoroughly enjoying the trip.

"I love the occasion, coming away with Tottenham and still being associated with Tottenham," he said. "It’s a great moment for me, I love it."

I'm hoping for a 3-3 draw with us scoring in the 91st minute. I'm so up for a trip to Amsterdam.
