OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs PSG

As long as we don’t let the eventual effect of the last 10 minutes get in our heads there are a lot of positives to take. We were excellent for 75 minutes.

I worry greatly about Tel. Would have put a lot of money on him missing that penalty. I’ve a terrible feeling he’ll turn into another one we’re struggling to shift in 12-18 months. I’m not really sure what he brings.

I’ve been saying for 2 years that our forwards are nowhere near good enough.

You never really felt like Hugo would save a pen (or even go the right way tbh)...I wonder if any budding statisticians could add data to support the idea that they're both gash at saving pens, it feels that way.

Hmm I tuned in for the 2nd half..Big drop off from the subs. Gray looks like bang average in midfield, but he'd look better alongside Palhinha, Sarr was brilliant. Tel invisible apart from a ridiculous free kick on the edge of the box and his penalty.

Disappointing, we can set up well against big teams and still throw it away, but it certainly looks like we'd also struggle against teams defending deep.

Still plenty of Positives but yeah, annoying. At least we were in the position to give a vaguely good account of ourselves before stacking it.

Tel had no help, solanke was invisible. He's not fit obviously so not blaming him, but solanke gave tel no help and left him isolated.

He’d clearly instructed Solanke and Tel to not cross the halfway line. That invited relentless pressure. Of course, viewing tactics through the benefit of hindsight is incredibly harsh and he’ll look a genius if we do hold out. This game will be barely a footnote in our season so hopefully there are better days (results wise) ahead.
I imagine he would have wanted them to get hold of the ball if they could in the way Kudus and Sarr were. Instead we just kind of chased them without ever really engaging or getting near it until the cross came in. I don't think that's what Frank intended to happen, I think he wanted more of the same but with fresher legs. Kudus was clearly ran out, as was Palhinha.

Didn’t Hugo save 3 in the space of a few weeks once. Two crucial ones as well. One from Aguero in the CL quarter final and one from Woolwich which, in hindsight, got us 4th place.

Imagine spurs fans taking the positive

To be fair, it's really hard for those who are more online because they look at all the mockery on social media and get (rightfully) wound up by it.

Best thing I ever did was to stop being so online last year. Gave me a much more measured perspective on life, and on Spurs. Yes I still have folks in my personal life who give me stick, but it's a lot less intense than it is online.

I think once the sting subsides, there will be general recognition that a) this is basically a glorified friendly, b) we gave a good account of ourselves, and c) the megarich oil club found a way to win, that's life. We can't bring players of the quality they did, off our bench. Until that changes, scoreline be damned, we're always the underdogs.

It now shifts focus back onto the market, and hopefully we can get a few deals over the line to stand us in good stead going into the season.

This actually hurts. Yes in essence it's the European equivalent of the Community Shield but had we won another trophy so soon after winning the Europa it would have felt like something to shout about. Would give our ' champions of Europe' chant a bit more weight aswell.

I think it's the way it happened aswell. If we had been beat comfortably than so be it nut to be leading 2-0 on 85 minutes only to go on and lose.

Was looking forward to gloating over the goons about another European trophy we had that they've never won aswell.

He saved more than people think. I think I calculated it once and his save percentage including shoot outs was something like 30%, which is about a 10% outperformance.

It is a glorified friendly undoubtedly - but one that if the result goes in your favour you can use as a feather in your cap for banter purposes.

Could have been our 5th European trophy and cementing us as the defacto best team in Europe - as it turns out it's just a warm up for Burnley at home

Seeing Tel getting pelters in lots of places. Looks like we have our new spacegoat. The lad is a fudging kid. And a talented kid. Give him a chance to settle FFS.

He's not had a great start to his career, but he's a kid that took a chance to sign for us to begin with, and fronted up to take the blame for some of our atrocious showings last season when he had no right or reason to.

Yes he's probably missing some confidence at the moment, and sure, he needs to improve.

But the kid has a good head on his shoulders, and will improve with time. I wish we had a bit more perspective when it comes to Tel.

We’ll win it next season as CL holders. It’ll feel even better. 😃

I remember this coming up before and that his save percentage wasn't particularly noteworthy. Gomes on the other hand had a great record (iirc)

We went toe to toe with one of the best sides in Europe tonight and was better for 75 mins.

I have harsh criticisms of this side and would normally use a game like tonight as fodder to have a pop............but for me, tonight, here is a sense of HUGE pride in me for how we played.................can we not just be proud for how we played and not weaponise the game of whom we played PSG and fudging hammer people..............for one night.

For sure mate. But then, it's just banter either way. You win, you get a bit to banter others with. You lose, you get a bit of stick.

But if we had won, would I have remembered this evening like I did Bilbao, when I cried my way through the night stumbling through the streets singing my heart out? fudge no. Maybe a bit of evening happiness, then on to the next one.

And that's what matters more. The real win was in Bilbao, in our hearts and in the stories we tell our kids. This one? Nah. :)
