OMT - TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Man U

Whilst its still a bit meh, def not as boring as other performances, we do look very ordinary and nothing special.

The goal itself was a set-piece: very opportunistically executed, but a set-piece nonetheless. What impressed me was the defending, the commitment, the relentless closing down: things we hadn't seen for upwards of 450 minutes of PL football. But beyond that, even, what got me was that we're finally trying to thread passes through to Soldado. Paulinho's expert reverse ball to set him away was one, and Lennon and Chadli's constant low passes across the face of goal (as opposed to long and hopeful 'tall' crosses Soldado would never be able to get to) were some others. And what can be seen from that is a) that we are at least trying to fix our evident deficiencies, and b) that when fed, Soldado will deliver, as evidenced by that wonderful through ball for Lennon midway through the half.

Good half, encouraging performance. COYS!

Good half. Paulinho seems to have been given instruction to stay much further forward and support Soldado and it's worked well a couple of times, though sometimes we get caught short in midfield. Lennon looking a menace, Chadli has been so so but then he played an hour in Norway, seems to want to run at Smalling. Encouraging signs.

He's still too deep when we get a cross in. Soon as the ball goes out wide he should be looking to get on the end of the cross.

I'm happy with the style of play. More like Spurs and not the dour crap recently dished up. They should be on two yellows by now and we have not commited one cynical foul. Will be interesting to see the pattern of yellows dished out in the second half. Apart from the one cluster**** by Walker we are showing signs of being back.=D>

Sorry but his general play has been very good today.
Dza , got to agree with KD , not sure which radio station you are listening to but soldado has been top drawer when we attack. Holds it, passes , one bad shot ! We were on top for 30 mins, they got a break, yes hey are dangerous on our left back but not because our forward is a passenger , watch a bit and then comment

Its been like watching a normal sours home game but in reverse. They are having more possession but we have created the better chances. Their best chance have both cone from Jones pressuring the ball in midfield and then feeding it wide. Lennon always has evra and is giving him a tough game.

For me chadli is a waste of space. Always cuts inside and is not tracking smalling well enough. Townsend on the left for me. Will also give Vets some cover. All their best attacks are coming down our left.

Thats because we dont have a left back and Valencia can beat Vertonghen at will.

So people banging on about Soldado not getting service, and then when he does his finishing is abysmal. This is not the only 100% chance he has missed this season.

This is the kind of game we often against ManU. THey come and have a go, so it is quite open. In the past they usually outlast us, or RVP or someone else makes the difference. Maybe it will be different today.

Very even first half with Spurs perhaps a tad unlucky to go in all-square.

Our midfield looks very good indeed and Lennon is proving the doubters wrong - the lad still has it!

That would blow the game right open. Chadli is keeping the ball very well and also providing an aeriel outlet up top. It's an important job he's doing, even though Paulinho and Lennon are being more directly effective,

He's not a threat though is he? He's played an excellent pass and that's about it. When crosses come in he is nowhere near them, coz he ain't strong enough in the air and not quick enough to cover the ground when we break fast.

The trouble is, we have no good option on the bench. Defoe is like a lobotomised Soldado.

If we had a Lukaku type upfront, we'd be a couple of goals up in this game imo. Or swap Rooney and Soldado, we'd be about 3-0 up!

Unfortunately, Soldado isn't going to become a fast or strong player. Hopefully, he can find himself on the end of something in the 2nd half and finish it, coz he has shown in his career that he is a good finisher. We need a bit more precision from our wide men to get him on the end of something.

Passenger was the wrong word of me to use, coz he is a trier. But he is too easy to defend against with how we are playing, imo.

That was a very very difficult chance and arguing otherwise is simply unfair

Better than most of the dross we're served up this season. Soldado, Lennon and Paulinho looking good. Would like to see Townsend on for Chadli and play on the left
