OMT Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea, WHL, Sat 28 Sept

Compare him to our articulate, softly spoken manager and it really is of great delight that we have someone like AVB in charge of our club..

Going into tomorrow's Chelsea game, Tottenham Hotspur have lost just 1 of their last 17 home matches at the Lane...

...and we've kept consecutive clean sheets in our last 6 home games.

in the PL, we have 3 wins out of 41 games against this mob....shocking, weve got to start turning it around starting with tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

so Chelsea havnt scored away this season and we have conceded none at home!?

0-0 it is then

****ing SkySports, when has AVB said there were personal problems between him and Mourinho? BROKEN RELATIONSHIP BEYOND REPAIR! Haha, I have never heard such ludicrous bull****.

Tottenham manager Villas-Boas - who learnt his trade under the Chelsea manager during his time at Porto, Inter Milan and Stamford Bridge - has revealed he no longer considers Mourinho a friend.

What? Where do they get this info? The quotes further down in the article clearly states that AVB wanted to move on for professional reasons;

"I don't lose any sleep," said the Spurs boss. "Our break-up point was because I was full of ambition to give him something extra and I wanted further involvement from the job I was doing at that time.

Ah, man, the media, what a bunch of departed idiots they are.

Ah, man, the media, what a bunch of departed idiots they are.

Skimming through the headlines I saw most of them had AVB dismissing the whole thing, then suddenly The S*n: AVB reveals rejection ignited a bitter feud between himself and Jose Mourinho

Coincidently they have the same owner as Sky. My opinion of these two particular media outlets is mostly covered by words containing these: ****

The saving grace is that no matter how much sky and the media want to portray their role as absolutely vital, the games are still and will always be settled on the pitch. Its on the pitch where it matters, not the daily talk show drivel that they pump the public full of.

Being abroad its much easier for me, but I really try to ignore the soap opera and tune in 5 minutes before kick off, turn over at half time, and switch off on the final whiste.

****ers, the lot of them.

who wouldnt want one of the best managers in the world managing us though?

I'm not denying he would be successful, but his methods are totally unethical and unnecessary. He has managed some wonderful teams with gifted players and yet the only way he can win is be resorting to anti football scheming. I actually found it funny when Madrid got pumped by Barca because they didn't try to play football, it's when they started attacking and taking the game to Barca that they finally started getting positive results. People think Arry talked too much and belittled people jesus christ, can you imagine what it would be like if that Jose's inflated ego walked through the door?

Everything he does is to further himself and his ego not too disimilar to old Arry. Take this ******** with Mata, are you telling me he can't even find a place for him on the bench? It's laughable. Wouldn't shock me if he's doing it just to prove a point and to make himself the centre of attention as usual.

He's a character and the game needs characters as too many managers give useless, dull soundbites, just don't want him at Spurs.

I think there was a time I actually enjoyed pre-match build up, but I've been avoiding it for years. If I happen to watch a US river I might leave the sound on at HT.

Soldado and Lamela learn from past Chelsea clashes

New Tottenham Hotpur signings Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela will look to use past encounters with Chelsea to their advantage when they come up against the Blues again on Saturday.

The Spanish striker and Argentine wide-man cost the White Hart Lane club a combined £52 million over the summer, reinvesting the world record fee received from Real Madrid for Gareth Bale wisely.

Despite being the meanest team in Europe so far this season, conceding just one goal in nine matches, Tottenham's displays have been far from dazzling as their recruits, including Soldado, Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Denmark international Christian Eriksen, adjust to life in England.

Soldado has yet to score a Premier League goal from open play, converting two penalties, while 21-year-old Lamela has been restricted to three substitute appearances under Andre Villas-Boas.

Nevertheless, they will be desperate to showcase their talents against Jose Mourinho's men on Saturday with top spot, temporarily at least, on offer for the victor of the lunchtime London derby.

"I’m looking forward to it," said Lamela, speaking exclusively for FourFourTwo.

"The team's in good form, we’re showing the right personality and mentality, which can only help us going into a game against a good side. It will be a beautiful game."

Both have come up against the Blues before. Lamela scored against them for Roma in an August friendly defeat and "learned a lot about their style of play".

Soldado netted a spot-kick against the Stamford Bridge side at Mestalla during the 2011/12 Champions League. But the former Valencia man ultimately endured disappointment as a 3-0 defeat in London knocked Los Che out.

"I hope my team-mates will help me a lot because when I played against them for Valencia it was tough," he told FourFourTwo. "At Stamford Bridge, especially, Chelsea were a lot better than us and we didn’t really cause them too much danger. Defensively, they’re very strong."

The 28-year-old is confident his new team can help him exact revenge.

"I think this game will be very different. Tottenham are a different team, we’re playing at home, we’re very dangerous, we’re very attacking and I’m convinced that the team will approach the match in the right way. I’m certain it won’t be like the 3-0 defeat I suffered last time."

From CFCnet:

I hope we come away with a point at least. I'm not expecting us to look full flowing, but we must be capable of stopping Spurs getting all three points.

I'll expect us to revert to our most no-nonsense and defensively solid (in theory) back seven. I.E. Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Ramires. In the event that Ramires isn't fit (I haven't seen an update on it since Tuesday), Lampard instead I guess.

We'll almost certainly go for the contain and counterattack approach...I just hope we play more like we did against Bayern than some other stodgier performances in the meantime.

I really, really, really want to beat that shower. Put them back in their place and eradicate some of that smugness. Another 4-2 would do nicely. Or better yet a 5-1 ala the FA Cup.

What's weird is that the guy who scored 2 and set up 1 last year is likely going to start on the bench. Not that I would go that way. Mata starts for me.

The tricky one is midfield if Ramires isn't fit. The logical way to go would be to pair Lamps with Mikel, but those two lack a bit in terms of mobility so its a tricky one. Essien isn't that much quicker so it's interesting to see what Jose does. I'd be inclined to look at a 4-3-3 with Mikel, Lamps, and Oscar but I doubt we'll go that route.

Their right side, Walker and Lennon, needs to be looked at and it's essential Cole isn't isolated. Therefore with Hazard and Schurrle likely to occupy the wide roles, perhaps it's best Schurrle plays on the left to provide a bit of defensive cover.

Big game - would be a huge win, not to mention a very important one. I hope to see us looking to win this (be it on the counter or however) rather than look to settle for a point. Big away wins are what contribute hugely towards titles.

I predict another bore fest of a game. Chelsea to go there, park the bus, struggle to string two passes together and hope to get lucky on the counter-attack.

0 - 0 or 1 - 0 to Spurs.

Not mikel and Lampard together again, we will get over run.

I'd take a point now to be honest. They look a strong team to break down, but I think they have their weaknesses, mainly Kyle Walker.

1-1 kind of game I think. I think Paulinho will be a real threat with his late runs into the box. I'd be tempted to go 4-3-3 and strengthen midfield with Lamps, Mikel and Ramires for this game.

Huge game and I´m not sure we will have any chance... Hope for a miracle (win) or at least for a draw...

Think Jose will start Eto´o, Schürrle, Oscar and Hazard and leave Mata, Azpi and Torres on the bench again. He hopefully knows what he´s doing.

hazard should be able to at least neutralise walker going forward if he can't take the game to him. I really hope the attack shows up tomorrow, it's been quite lacklustre thus far.

If spurs play like they currently are, we will put 3-4 past them, causing them all sorts of trouble, however if they change their philosophy and play with 2 blocks of 4 (which teams seem to like to do against us), we will struggle to score goals, unless we use width wisely, and even then it might be a draw or we might edge a 2-1 win...

Teams do not want to take us on man for man for a reason, its not very wise with the type of forwards we posses.

I have a feeling eto will start this one, even though torres looks on form....not expecting mata to start either too, I suspect schurrle will. The rest of the team picks itself..

hazard will have a hard time being marked by paulino, capoue AND walker, if AVB changes his style of play..takes the fun out of the game really..

Spurs will probably be up for this one, especially at home. Unfortunately I feel like Jose will opt for Eto'o with Mata and Torres on the bench.

I've got a good feeling about this match.

I think Mourinho the master will out-smart the apprentice.

Tottenham's midfield will struggle to cope with Chelsea's power and craft.

Mata will run the show, setting Torres up for a sensational hat-trick.

0-4.

Has anyone on this thread actually watched them this season? They have been poor and have only had a good start in terms of points because they have had an easy start apart from Arsenal, which they lost. I know we have not had the best of starts either and I'm not saying we will hammer them but if we play well, like we have in the bigger games this seasin then we win, simple as that. I can't believe so many people on here are so negative, spurs away has become the biggest game of the season for me personally and I would love to smash them up, they are fast becoming my most hated club and I can't wait for tomorrow.

They have not been free flowing, but they have certainly added more steel and more creativity to the team/squad. The fact they have been poor in your view and sit top of the table is surely a sign that they are going to be difficult opposition tomorrow. They seem to of picked up that knack of winning and not playing well, something all top teams need to be able to do.

They are far from the finished piece though. I dont rate Walker, I am not a massive Dawson fan either and I think their manager has a lot to prove and could very easily mess up their season.

I still think a draw tomorrow will be a decent result. Win would be excellant.

Perhaps the doom and gloom merchants in here should watch some of Spurs' games this season, they have been rubbish.

Yes, that's why I said we will put 3-4 past them with with their current style of play and form, but what I suspect is that spurs will abandon that style of play just to face us...like all the teams we have played so far, apart from bayern..

Has anyone actually watched us this season too though?! ;)

Think it'll be a tight game, and would actually understand for once if Mata isn't starting. I hope Torres starts instead of Eto'o because he's the sharpest of the three at the moment IMO. So main decisions for Jose seem to be Luiz or Cahill, who replaces Ramires if he isn't fit and who starts up top. All the other positions should be fairly nailed on.

Would take a draw in all honestly

The apprentice is no match for the master. I think we will prove too strong, compare both benches and we are a lot stronger. We have the ability to bring on some serious game changers, which might make the difference.
