I am done with Ange ball. I`ve said it time and again but do the teams above us have better squads than us? Sure they probably would have lost but not without at least a shot on target. I know we have a lot of injuries but that was abject last night. I also get the reason why we are trying to buy young talent for the future but I wish that for once we would buy established players for certain positions. I know it is not that easy when there are a lot of top teams paying big money for top players. But even though we have great facilities who would choose us over any of the other top 10 teams in europe at the moment?
I will be surprised if Ange is in charge at the start of next season but where do we start with yet another rebuild of the squad? How many players can we get rid of in one go?
I will give one example but the same could apply to many in our current squad. Pedro Porro never made it at City then goes to a mid table side in spain then we eventually sign him after a loan spell for 40 mil. The guy is average at best and a woeful defender, but this applies to half our squad at the moment. We constantly pay over the odds for average players. To me Richarlison is a winger who scores the occasional goal he is not a striker in a million years. We have done this season after season for years. 100 mil on Ndombele and Lo Celso? You couldn`t get 2 more average players and basically it is rinse and repeat season after season under Levy and Enic. Throw in a clueless manager and we are where we are. Can anyone on here see Ange leaving us and going to another top team in europe?
Anyway rant over. The team can go on and win the Europa league now but I will not change my mind about Enic and Ange

If we were to wait until gray and Bergvall were established players before buying them then probably couldn't afford them and almost certainly are not attracking them.

Look at this great Liverpool squad. Almost all players come from smaller clubs than ours, or were bench players at bigger clubs and would have joined if we made a bid for them. McAlister, Gakpo, Diaz, Gravenbech, Konate, etc. you name it. Even VVD was at Southampton and would have signed for us if we came before Liverpool with a bid. It is not about that we can't attract top quality talent, we are not able to recognize the right players. Paratici looked the most qualified to bring the type of players we want but he is no longer at the club and the new man în charge of scouting looks to be a clown.

Don't forget that we tried to sign Diaz and he went to Pool instead. And do you have any evidence that VVD would have signed for us, especially given our wage structure?

VVD is not a good example, he was a stand out at Celtic but a top club wouldn't take a chance on him.
Southampton got him relatively cheap and sold him for a fortune later on.
Ange is judged not good enough because of his record in Scotland, so was vvd, Liverpool could have got him for £60m cheaper if they had been prepared to take a punt.

Would have taken him for 80m from Southampton too. Easily worth it.

The problem with this perspective is

- Vic/Kinsky, Porro/Spence, Romero/Danso, VDV/Dragusin, Udogie/Davies, Bissouma/Gray, Bentancur/Sarr, Maddison/Bergvall, Son/Tel/Wilson, Solanke/Richi, Deki/Johnson is not a side that is bottom half of the PL

This is why this conversation is just a circle, does the club need to get better players to challenge for the top 4? yes, does the club really need better players to be in top 8? no, even with injuries we should be in top 10.

Proof point, just win against Ipswich, Leicester & Everton and we would have been 9th.

Sort of.

VVD went in the Jan of 2018 to Pool. Our stadium didn't open until Apr 2019. Vertonghen was 31 back then, but even if we wanted to upgrade him we didn't have the cashflow model to get involved in VVD. We started the decline from the summer of 2017 when we had just finished a season on 86 points, still our best ever.

he’s not a chelsea fan, he supports villa
i know him ( albeit not very well),lived ( probably still lives) on my road when i was still in the UK. His kids and my kids went to football and karate classes together, had a few chats to him when he saw my boys in their spurs kits, although never really gave much away ( or anything in terms of itk).

Isn’t he the Chelsea mouthpiece who now had to turn replies off his tweets because he got so much abuse when tweeting about Tottenham?
