***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Brighton, White Hart Lane, Sat April 18th, 5.30pm***

I thought Porro on the right wing ahead of Spence ought to work, and still do, really, on the basis that Porro is capable of delivering a decent cross, and I think Spence is a better one-on-one defender, but IIRC, Tudor tried it once and it was terrible....

It doesn't work because as a full back you get more time and space as you are running from deep and not starting in the 'danger areas' where you are more closely marked. It's a different ball game receiving the ball as a winger, the defender is on you instantly. We do have some strange obsession on here with suggesting players play out of position, just like suggesting Romero as CM because he can pass a ball (guaranteed more red cards from that position for starters).

Surprised noone has suggested Kinksy as our deep lying playmaker, as he can ping a pass.....

Spence has played as 'an advanced wing-back' a lot prior to us (and of course in the CL he has played as a RW).
Desperate times call for inventive measures.
 
All about opinions but I have to disagree with the potential Porro/Spence positions. Porro is good going forward, has a good cross and decent shot on him but is pretty bad defensively. Spence is good defensively, not a bad passer, not known for his shooting, can be tricky on the wing but his crossing isn't all that. If it happens Porro has to be further up with Spence at rb IMO.
Brighton will have a lot of the ball don't forget and always get it wide to Minteh/Mitoma and whoever plays on their right side who are their main threats along with Welbeck.
Think it won't matter anyway as De Zerbi will probably go with the same side as v Sunderland and have me scratching the last hairs out of my head!

Well, I suppose there's nothing to stop him starting his runs from deeper if that's where he can receive the ball, but he's going to come under pressure at some point anyway. The only way round that is you've got to be better—be able to beat your man and get the cross in. Of course, if that's the case (see Kudus) what happens is you get doubled-up on and you then have to be in the elite bracket to be successful. And again we're back to the issue of quality.

Porro has been played out of position virtually every game since he arrived, he's an attack-minded rwb who's been played rb and isn't very good at it.

You're right - playing with the game in front of you is very different to playing with your back to the opposition goal or in positions where you'll be pressurised more quickly. TAA was the best example of that.

However, we don't have much in the way of options on the right side of midfield/right wing. I believe Xavi has played there for The Netherlands but I prefer him in the 10. Anyone else that can play there?

Souza played there against Liverpool, although it was a 442, and frankly I haven’t seen or know enough about him to say I would play him there Saturday with what’s at stake.

Well i have said this all along that Porro, Udogie and Spence are converted full backs anyway. We have played these players out of position since they joined as all of them were bought by Paratici as part of a squad build for his preferred 3-4-3 formation and preferred head coach profile (i.e. Nuno, Conte etc). I mean even Romero was bought i think with the idea of playing in a back 3 with license to roam and bring ball out.

Porro was winger at Emirates Marketing Project then played wing-back at Sporting. Udogie was a wing-back at Udinese and was primarily bought to take over from Perisic in that formation.

Spence was bought as a potential wing-back although did play full back and is the strongest defender of the lot.

These full backs were a constant problem defensively under Ange and continue to be a problem today. We have a frankenstein squad built for a variety of different styles and coaches
