Don’t think he was the worst player for us and wasn’t at fault for the goal but this is the senior player hiring a 0 on every metric

And others will be similar I’m sure (this was on twitter). These numbers aren’t tactics … their altitude and mentality

Ange can't escape criticism for our form, however as long as son and Maddison are not just first team starters but the leadership group I can't see much changing, regardless of the manager.

That’ll be the leadership group he appointed and had the guts of two years to shape?

So why can't maddison execute it.
If vdv is the quickest player in the PL maddison must be the slowest, if thought and deed

So if the leadership group, or individuals within it, aren’t performing then break it up.

He’s out of his depth - frozen and afraid to do anything other than what he’s been doing for months, while praying for a miracle.

Yes that is is obviously on ange as bad picks, made worse by not changing it, but those two have joined the long list of "step up" players, "we learn and go again" merchants, except they never do.

I'm not absolving ange of his portion of the blame, the majority of it, but lets not kid ourselves that he is the sole issue.
Bergvall scored an og, caused a horrific injury and still had a better game than Son and Maddison combined.

I missed a lot of the game, but it was standing football.

ITs easier to beat a player when your moving, than from a stationary position. But we just go sideways and backwards.

When we did play into space we were slow or just stood watching.

This is it..

I don't like the bleating about injuries..But does this system work without a Solanke / Richarlison? And Ange has been without one or the other for the majority of the season.

Son / Tel upfront is eyebleed material. But how good can we expect from a 3rd / 4th choice CF?

Weird from Bergvall today as well. He's seen as a bit of a technician, but the own goal was just bad technique and one first touch took him about 10 metres in the wrong direction later on. Most had a mare today so perhaps it's unfair to single him out, the goal was unfortunate but wouldn't have happened if anyone had actually challenged for a corner.

Plus the shot of Son and Maddison muttering on the bench after their display, they're the ones to move on. Let's buy some more kids to replace them so we can kick off at anyone hoping for us to be decent for at least three seasons. Call it a slow grow transitional period and tut at anyone who expects better.

Surely it’s about tweaking tactics to get the best out of players at your disposal? and not bemoaning those that are out? If Son and Tel thrive through playing a certain way, whilst Richarlison and Solanke prefer to play differently then play the way we need to for the personnel that are available. It’s about tweaking the team and making sure that we get the best out of who is available. If we don’t do that, if we can’t do that, we will never succeed. We have a team of highly talented professional players who ought to be able to adapt how they play.

I think we

Tel has no history playing as a CF to say which way he thrives and sonny has had little success playing CF in a possession side without a striker there (think Llorente or even Moura as well as Kane)
And the team can’t just become a long ball counter attacking side one game and possession side the next

And that is worryingly normal for managers for fear of alienating players knowing the pressure will always be on the manager

Off to bed, so trying to give myself a positive.

When we look back on this season, we’ll always have that victory over Tamworth.

Sweet dreams all!

That was their third game this week (with 1 that went to extra time)...yet, they never stopped running, and running in a cohesive fashion.

I thought it lined up nicely for us tonight, 8 days off, returning players, refreshed players. We looked like we just didn't have an idea. I think we try, put the effort in BUT when it comes to creativeness, interplay or even some bog standard stuff we either resort to safety first or make it look like the hardest thing in the world.

Now the boot is on the other foot...AZ have no game until they play us next Thursday.

We probably have two players less to choose from.

It was soooo far from what I expected.
I think the effort was also lacking somewhat tonight, compared to other games. But you would expect after almost 2 seasons we would look more cohesive and fluid than we did. That is the baffling part. Of course the same thing happened under Conte, where we played our best football in his first season. But with Conte the explanation was simple: he was way too rigid and he lost the dressing room. With Ange I do not know. I doubt he is clueless, as some people say, so maybe it is his rigidity too.

As another poster said, we should have gone into this game looking to be solid defensively and disrupt the way AZ plays. That should have been objective number 1, 2, 3, and 4. Playing "our football" should have been #10 on the list.

Anyway, here's to hoping we snap out of this funk soon.

AZ are know for being defensive and tight
Their a counter attacking team
So something would have to give with one of the sides and the way to play

See the clip above of Maddison on the bench tonight, having been subbed, saying to Son, “Always the same plan.”

The players have looked lost for months. Some just couldn’t bring themselves to believe it.
