*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa FC ***

I hope Ange keeps rotating the 3 midfielders. Bentancur got the 90 mins during the week. Sarr got the 90 mins today. We need all 3 combo's to get their understandings developed and then we'll have a great platform to build around. It gives us so much consistency as a team.

Not what our Moderating Overlords want to hear but I ignored this forum during the game.

Nice to just sit back and attentively watch the game without flipping back and forth to read the comments from people feeling the need to constantly bark about every little negative moment.

What a nice weekend. Arsenal lose, we win (our second impressive victory of the week). We scored really lovely goals that featured great team play and skill.

It's been a constant theme on Spurs telecasts that commentators look at our goals and the first reaction is to criticize the opposing defenders. Like our second and third goals came from intercepting passes and quickly turning them into attacks. No one ever mentions how Ange has set up the team and how our positioning made those interceptions possible. Today the world TV feed had Jim Proudfoot and Matt Holland on the mics and they are among my favourites to listen to. Yet when talking about the history of Spurs-Villa matches, they chose to focus on Villa's record at our stadium. It wasn't until after Maddison scored our fourth that they spoke of the 4-0 tonking we delivered last spring at Villa. I understand from some comments that Alan Smiff was back for his second straight Spurs victory. I can only imagine the slant his commentary took.

Hey Bishop! Ben Davies says Hi and sut ydych chi'n hoffi fi nawr?

How about that much maligned Davies? Great move to steal the ball from Onana and start the attack for Solanke's game winner. Defended well, too. Just a cool presence. Total pro. A lovely free kick from Maddison to remind the manager of what he's got. Good to Gruff-but-loveable Ange get his subs bang on again. I'm off to roll in the autumn leaves.
Davies wasn't playing LB my friend. 😅

I have no problem with him at CB especially as an option.

Again, Compared to what? Take a look at any game of football. How many crosses reach their intended target? Not many. Don't think we are any worse than other teams.
But ours look hit and hope, others look like they are trying to play the player.

Of course, I am not expecting 100% perfection, but I do expect a few of them to actually be dangerous, more than hopeful.

How can I not get this chant started???

So-Lanke, He's got to be So-Lanke
He's Big and Strong for Tottenham. So-Lanke... Repeat. (To the tune of So Macho)

Good result.

Glad Solanke got a couple.

But it doesn't hide some glaring issues. First half we created nothing of substance, just some speculative shots from outside the box (Which was good to see)

Better 2nd half, quicker play and more aggressive, but our crossing for the majority of it was appalling.

We had 4 moments. Son's cross for the first goal, was the first cross he made of any substance.

2nd goal came from good play, but that was the first chance Kulu made all game, was a deft touch too.

3rd Goal come from a disaster pass from Villa, but well taken from Sarr, good pass to Richy, Richy with a lovely cross for Solanke smash home.

Finally a great goal from Maddison, for the first time in a long time, a goal from a free kick.

Happy with the win.

Drag's had a great game and highlights how slow and ponderous Romero is on the ball and didn't miss him.

No team will ever play a perfect match of football. Mispasses or mistakes happen all the time, every minute of every game. Sounds to me like you're somehow expecting us to be flawless. We will never be. I know I am pointing out the obvious, but the way some people moan even when we win 4-1 over a table rival - what do you really expect? We will never see a perfect match of football, mistakes are part of the game, all teams do them all the time. :)

Parked on the M25 attempting to get home from the game.

Rest assured though: there’s an absolute flurry of work going on….

Thought we were unlucky to be trailing at HT. we didn’t create much, but neither did they. The main performer was the ref (Pawson?) who beautifully encapsulated how utterly awful PL referees are at their jobs. He was well backed by the fourth official, who added on a single minute of added time. Martinez started time wasting in the SIXTH minute which is genuinely the earliest I’ve ever seen. Who needs a frigging drink while taking a GK that early in the game? Him, apparently.

Second half I thought we stepped up a gear and matched them physically, winning all the key battles. Son’s cross for the equaliser was a thing of beauty and after that Villa had to resort to diving, feigning injury and more time wasting. Thankfully we finally showed that we can be clinical and scored some really nicely worked goals to win the game.

I was expecting 4/5/6 mins added time second half. Can someone explain where 10 came from? Overall, 11 across the two halves was roughly correct but that’s not how it works: it’s done half by half. What does the fourth official actually do?

Truly bizarre.

In my opinion we were far superior to Villa last season and lost the game, so it was lovely to see our dominance rewarded with three points.

Shame about the injuries. Hopefully none too bad. I suppose Ange will have to go extremely young for Gala. Could be an interesting watch…

Breaking news: I think we just got into third gear. Hallelujah!

OK didn't go to the City game but that - that was the best second half I have seen from us in a long long time. Pawson's poor officiating really got the crowd going, and the energy from the crowd seemed to lift the players and led to our first. After that ...wow!

Who on here was at the game today? Just seen John McGinn say after the game it was the loudest he had heard at an away game. It didn`t come across on Sky as being loud even though I know they filter the sound for their own bias

We were the better side, had most of the possession etc etc

Doesn't mean we played well, like I said, we was slow and ponderous, not creating enough, both wingers refusing to take on their men, aimless and pointless crosses into the box. Defence, midfield, and forwards not linking up well.

Villa were awful and we still struggled to break them down first half, and they still went in 1-0 up half time.

Why don't you do us all a favour and take a game off?

You've been on here about five weeks and the vast majority of your posts are negative about Spurs. It's a constant stream of pish and vinegar. Why not just park the snark next game and come back with some concise, considered observations instead of this constant negative ranting?

You're shaping up to be considered a troll.

Oh you dump on him enough that you'd be unhappy if he was just handing out water bottles.
No I'm very specific. He's past his best at playing LB, that much I've been very clear in saying. I'm reptative with it. What you haven't seen me criticise is his play at CB. I think he's ok there and at this point it suits his game more.

Their fans didn’t sing a single song until after they’d scored. I think they sang a couple before HT and then were unheard in the second half. If that’s the best he’s heard then their away support must be as pointless as Craig Pawson.

People booing after that half? fudge off. I thought the lads did well. We must have won more balls in the final third than any other game before. Excellent in the press. Unlucky with the deflection off Bentancur with the goal - not easy for Vic to save.

Villa have a good team. Rogers and Ramsey looking strong. We tend to struggle with teams that sit back and counter. For the first 35 mins they barely managed to counter.

Maddison on for the second half, please. I think Sarr has been excellent, but must probably be sacrificed here.
They were booing the ref.
Richy out injured again for a few weeks
I said on here last week he should be top of our upgrade list, with Vicario second.

Second half it was LOUD.

Didn’t think it was anything special but from the equaliser to going 3-1 up the atmosphere was rather good.

Got to be happy with that weekend.

Great turn around and performance.
3 points off third. That palace game really hits now. But we deserved nothing from it.

Good week overall.

Need to get one of Romero or VDV back though.
