He should never have started tonight at lwb ( although he could played in Sons position who also should never have started) , especially away from home but because of the chronically poor squad depth he had to play as Davies ( now our first choice lwb) had to play so we could rest Lenglet.

There in lies the rub.
ANY of the top six could have used a few squad players and got through this tie.
Our squad is pathetic , through a combination of tinkle poor recruitment and lack of investment.
Chelsea rested HAZARD , yes Hazard at his peak in that fa cup semi final a few years ago.
We are never going to be able to compete on multiple fronts unless we massively improve the squad.

There was 8 changes from the team that has played the last two games. That's too many changes. Yes, make some, but not that many.
The changes made didn't even make sense. PEH has been run into the ground, he's not rested, same for Dier.
Davies, Lenglet and Romero have been rotated or missing throughout the season play them and rest Dier.
Skipp and Sarr haven't played much, play them and rest PEH. They've played together and played well.

Exactly this, anytime we go into a cup game and make such number of changes it generally backfires, saw it in the cow farmers cup under Jose.

As risky as it is, we can't weaken our backbone by omitting Romero, again a lesson we seem not to learn. He doesn't play you risk these mistakes and chances of hit and run results, it's happened so many times for it not to be the case.

His first season with Barca. It wasn't the first trophy that that group of players had won. They'd won the CL and La Ligas 2-3 years earlier. They already had the winning mentality.
And that's ignoring it was probably the best team ever with the greatest player ever.

The only way to do something about that is to get into the semi final again and actually win it, Unfortunately though the powers that be at our club (and Baleforce) don’t think that winning trophies is worth striving for. Not enough money in trophy wins apparently.

Absolute disgrace that was from Management to players.

Awful team selection from start. Our best player left out when we are 4 games from a trophy.

3 CBs on the pitch at the final whistle when we are a goal down to a team from the division below.

Standing off them for 60 minutes just letting them have the ball with no press.

Players dead on their feet on 50 mins (was obvious to see) staying on for another 20 mins - basically losing all impetus on that side of the pitch (Moura).

Players playing the whole game despite being awful (Son and Sanchez).

Danjuma on the bench and Moura starting - baffling.

I personally couldn’t give a flying fk about finishing 4th. We’d have 2 extra chances of winning a trophy if we concentrated on the cup and then finishing 5th/6th and getting in the Europa.

Now 32 years since we’ve been in an FA Cup final. Disgrace.

Cannot wait for the period of this playing system to be over.

We didn't lose because the starters tonight aren't drilled as a unit, we lost because of the complete lack of effort. There's enough quality there to score the necessary goals if we just put the work in.

I said before the game that both our left and right sides looked weak defensively.
Clearly the thought process was that we would outscore them with the attacking talent we had on paper in that team. Sadly our wingbacks didn't perform and our three attackers were toothless.
Shocking performances all round.
Son and Peresic should only be on the bench from now on.

Despite arguing earlier it wasnt too much of a weakened side, on reflection there were too many changes. At the back there were 2 changes in the back 3 including dropping our best/only good CB and both wingbacks changed - so 4 of back 5 changed. 2 of front 3 changed, drafting in 1 player who’s barely had game time lately and leaving in our worst performing player for one of the other forward positions. Skipp should have started instead of PEH given him & Sarr have the Milan game under their belts to build on.
Recipe for disaster.

Until the club starts taking FA and League cup competitions seriously the fans should see them as training matches with little expectation. Sure we may win the odd game but we certainly are not winning it. Are we good enough to win the League or CL? Currently no so we are winning fudge all for the next few years.

So our best midfielder , best and only goalscoring forward , best and only really good ball playing defender , best wing back ( in current form) and don't forget best keeper as well because if rather have an out of form Loris between the sticks than "TIMBER" playing .
