Journalist @SimonPeach informed no truth in LVG appointed Tottenham manager within next 48 hours. #THFC

Some random blogger posted 48hrs last night, so it wouldn't shock me if Talksport had just taken that story and run with it.

Then again they have taken quite a bold stance so they must be quite confident of their source

TalkSPORT claim Tottenham will announce Louis Van Gaal as their new head coach within the next 48 hours. #THFC

Same story here (which pre-dates TalkSport, so is likely its source):

van Gaal announcement in 48 hrs

A good few whispers tonight that Louis van Gaal will be confirmed as our new manager for next season, before this coming weekend.

Daniel Levy is believed to be desperate to finalise the almost completed and stop any Manchester United shaped hurdle in the process.

I think we are heading off disaster with this appointment if it happens........he is a nutjob! Just found these quotes from after he left Munich.....'This is what club president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had to say at the time.'

‘Football should be enjoyable but there has been nothing enjoyable about football for quite a while. To say he had players behind him is a myth. Problems were created which were totally unnecessary and which have ripped the club to pieces.’

Ouch. Player Luca Toni also revealed that Van Gaal dropped his trousers in front of the squad to demonstrate he had the ‘balls’ to axe any player from the starting line-up.

Football is ideally about glory through playing football in the right manner. If LVG can get results & good performances, I don't care what he says or does with the squad. Sometimes perhaps players need a waking up, even if the dropping of trousers does seem excessive.

If he did that in the Spurs dressing room, and then we beat Chelsea, who would complain?

Unorthodox tactics but let's hope that they bring good levels if success.

course they will, 5 pl and CL doubles in a row, winning 38 league games in a row 5-0, retiring all shirts numbered 1-11 because we didn't concede a single goal for 4 years

how hard can it be

There will still be people moaning we could have scored more if he'd only used their favoured lineup instead or didn't promote enough youth or any other minuscule reason to not be completely satisfied.

conjecture surely

they've been begging Wenger to extend for a season and a half

i'd also say that LVG is either a) done and dusted or b) was a non starter and he's already said no, its one thing to hold off on announcing because of the WC but Levy isn't gonna risk having to go into pre-season without a new manager already ensconced

I guess it is worth speculating over, but even the author does admit that he is just taking a shot in the dark. I don't think that Jonker joining their youth development program automatically precludes Van Gaal turning up to coach their first team, just because he has always worked as LVG's number two.

Firstly, if they were always working together why is Jonker not with LVG at the moment coaching the Dutch national team? It would also make sense for him to bring in other Dutch coaches of his own accord and not coaches whom he did not know.

The author also states that Wenger would only refuse to sign a contract extension if he felt he wasn't going to take the club any further, something which wouldn't have entered his mind until recently when they dropped out of the title race and exited the Champions League at the hands of Bayern. Lets not forget that before the injury to Ramsey they were playing some of the best football in the league whilst shutting other teams out. Wengers system was working and if not for the injuries to key personel (of which there are too many to list) they would still be up there. I can't claim to know the mind of the man, but this season was a big improvement up until last month and you would think that he would hope to have a better season if he can strengthen the squad in the right way.

Lastly. If reports are to be believed then we have been in touch with LVG since December, before Jonker took a position at Arsenal. Now so far as I can remember in January Arsenal were flying high and Wenger was held in high regard by all the Arsenal fans, so at the time of the Jonker appointment talk of Wenger leaving was almost non existent. If contact was made at any time between Arsenal and LVG's agent, it wouldn't have been until this month.

I can understand the logic in what this guy is saying but there are holes in the argument. Maybe Jonker being there could be a factor if LVG was offered the post, but I don't think Jonker is there because LVG pushed for him to get the job back in January. If that were the case then LVG would've been lined up for the job before 2014 and certainly not taking calls from us or any of the other clubs he has been linked with these past few months.
