I think whilst we laugh our socks off at Arsenal struggles:ross::ross::ross:, we should bear in mind that we could be in competition for them for a new manager. I feel if Arsenal don't win a trophy Wenger will walk.

I worry that if this happens they will be in for LVG or any of our other possible manager targets.
The fact that LVG seems a manager who not so bothered about spending might also be of interest to the Gooner board as well:-k

I've had exactly the same fears. I think the probability of Wenger walking is higher than Moyes getting sacked!

Getting pestered by yids already :)

Wow a spurs fan met Van Gaal whilst holidaying in Holland? this is groundbreaking (the guy even says on his twitter that Van Gaal didn't say anything).

How much do people think that those three would cost and assuming that we sell to buy again, who would we move on to finance them?

I think Siggy, Lennon and Dembele are the reasonably high value players we need to cash in on this summer to balance our squad (along with the deadwood like Rose, Livermore and BAE).

There are a lot of good young Dutch players out there like these 3 and Claise. But I do think it's 2+2 thinking that's the route we'll go down in the summer.

Especially as LVG doesn't like transfers, I think there's probably more chance of Dodo becoming our new LB than Blind (i.e it will be Baldini leading in this area).

The players were Blind (LB), Martins Indi (CB) and Lens (Striker or wide forward). Seen many other links online with Davy Klassen but I think that is just a case of him being Dutch and LVG being linked to the job.

GB who got that picture??

It just popped up on my twitter stream. The explanation is in the text beneath the photo if you click on the link. A Spurs fan was at some Dutch league game in Arnhem today and met LVG. Asked him if he was going to be our new manager and got a cheeky smile in response or something.

Wasn't Dembele at Alkmaar during LVG's tenure? I expect he'd want to keep him around wouldn't he?

The Gooners crack me up. This time last month they were saying what a great manager he was and how they were going to win the league, two months before that he was useless and the month before that a mastermind. Seriously I don't think anyone can call our fans the most fickle in the league when these lot change their mind so often. IMO he will be there next season, until the injuries they had to key players they were fine, but losing 4 of their first choice midfielders (Wheelchair, Ozil, Ramsey and Walcott) has left Wenger with no options. I mean Flamini is trying to get into the box and score when he isn't that type of player.

Yeah, he was.

It's just my thinking really, that he's really the CM that doesn't do the job he was brought in for - i.e. replace Modric. He just isn't creative enough/doesn't release the ball quick enough. I'm also worried that his hip injury will continue to plague him long term.

I don't dislike Dembele, but I'd certainly trade him in for a proper deeplying ballplayer like Claise or Banega.

Clasie at Feyenoord right? From the limited amount of time I've seen him play, I'd say he'd be worth a shot, but in a midfield three alongside Eriksen who would be the other?? I don't think we would need to play a pure DM alongside those two as he looks a real terrier in defence.

Sandro has always got to be the first name on the teamsheet. So either Sandro, Clasie and Eriksen as a trio, or move Eriksen up to LF and bring in Paulinho as the advanced one.

Its usually the keeper though isnt it?
Or is this some Edgar Davids wearing the number 1 shirt type egotism.

Milo i don't think we'll be needing to break even on transfer deals this summer as we should be seeing a decent amount of 'extra' cash coming in to the club from the new tv deal. over time this extra financing will work it's way down to increased player wages no doubt but for the next couple of seasons i can see us having a negative transfer spend of around 20-30 mil.

(of course there is the chance we'll be using it for the stadium)

i very much doubt there will be any negative transfer spend of 20-30 mill...........1-5 mill max maybe, but not what you are suggesting. Prudence will the buzz word until the stadium is built

But what are you actually basing that on?

Im going by all of ENICs time in charge - we break even overall every season (more or less) in the early days when we had negative transfer spends of around 60mil we still broke even as a business - in the last few years where our wage bill and operating costs have rose our transfer spending has dropped as a result. With the new tv deal providing a hefty amount of money from this summer onward id expect to see our transfer spending rise once again - it'd go totally against how we know ENIC operate should we all of a sudden start banking 30-40 mil profit each season - of course it does depend on the stadium financing but my guess would be that the reason for the delay there has been financing - think Levy has been pretty adamant the stadium won't be effecting the football side of things. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I'll take a sportsmans bet with you that we end up around -20 mil this summer ;)

but the football side of things wont be affected if our spending on transfers shows a low net loss/profit as has been the case in recent years This is exactly how the club has been run for the past 5 or 6 years where we have only spent roughly what we banked from sales, give or take a few million either way. Salaries will continue to rise and Levy will have to take this into account when budgeting how to sensibly use the extra tv money. The last tv deal increase didnt result in Spurs having a big negative net spend, no its always been about breaking even. Just think if we sell a Vertonghen or Lloris in the summer plus 3 or 4 other fringe players and we will easily have over 50 mill to spend anyway. Im sure Levy will consider that enough to bring in the 2 or 3 first teamers we need to strengthen.

i don't think looking purely at transfers in/out gives a true reflection of how we go about business as you're not looking at the whole picture - the one constant through ENICs time has been the business as a whole breaks even - why would that all of a sudden change? when there has been extra money available it has resulted in a negative transfer spend, that is as close to fact as you can get and i see no reason for us to expect that to change. I agree that wages will eventually rise as deals get renegotiated/new signings come in wanting bigger deals - but that isn't going to swallow up 30-40 mil in the first and second seasons of the new tv deal, maybe even longer.

I'll be very surprised if Vertonghen and/or Lloris leave in the summer - I don't think we'll be selling anyone we consider part of the first team, certainly not because we need to fund in coming transfers, no i think a few fringe squad players will leave and we'll sign 3 or 4 players. of course there is always the chance that a handful of expendable squad players leave for enough money that we don't need to dramatically over spend on transfers so i could be wrong re the 20 mil net spend - i just think we don't need to break even or are even using it to restrict who we target over the window.

when was the last tv deal negotiated btw? would be interested to see what happened around that time. Comolli's last window and Redknapps first saw us with a negative spend of around 100mil in the market if i am not mistaken.

Anyone who thinks we're going to spend any money (net) in the summer obviously hasn't been paying attention for about the last 5 years.

If there's any money from the new tv deal that isn't eaten up by salary clauses (remember what happened to our CL 'windfall'), it will all go straight on the stadium.

Zero net spend has been the mantra for the last 10 windows (our last substantial spend was Jan 09)

difference being GB that we won't be in the CL next season so there's no comparison to be made there - unless you're suggesting the players have a %of profit clause in their contracts?

id say anyone suggesting otherwise hasn't been paying attention the past 15 years or however long ENIC have been in charge (as opposed to a select period where our operating costs have risen quicker than income)

but GB is right....you have to look at the past 5 years to see the trend which coincides with the start of the planning for the new stadium. From 2001 to 2008 the club were never serious about building a new stadium so of course we had some big negative spend transfer windows. Only late in 2008 did they announce the NDP and ever since the summer of 2009 we have mostly had zero-ish net spend transfer windows
