New takeover rumours

Where is that thread where people said they would stop supporting tottenham if this thing happens

if this happens i want to see how many can stick by that LOL

People will try to justify it. Say that we somehow deserve it. That we're a proper club with a proper fanbase and history unlike Chelsea and City. That will be the argument.

If we are to be bought, the takeover must be sufficiently far down the line that it was the consortium/individual buying the club who appointed AVB and not Levy. If it was Levy then AVB has taken big risk by signing up as he could be gone as soon as any potential takeover is completed.

Haha yeah some of those posts were hilarious!

there was some classic higher than mighty cooments in there. made for some good and entertaining reading , heh.

i wouldnt really care if they did go back on their word personally as its nice to chat to internet buddies on all things to do with your club.....but i want to see how they spin this......badly

there is no way you can justify the reaction they claimed they would have if we got bought out. LOL

that would look worse than the initial overreaction in the first place lol

Ideal(ish) scenario is someone comes in and pays for the stadium and perhaps some existing loans and get naming rights and part ownership. We continue as before with Levy running things, then later they get to buy a bigger share if all goes well.

I don't think Levy and Lewis have put this much effort into the club just to have some rich kid come in and throw his money around, then get bored and leave the club to rot. At least I hope so.

I was probably one of those that said they would knock it on the head if that were to happen.
I stand by it. I would never stop supporting Spurs - the club is too ingrained in my soul but i doubt i would continue to go to home games.
THFC employees waving big flags, corporate scarves on seats, those clapping things to try & generate atmosphere & announcers shouting out the players first names so we can all reply with the surnames. And worse, our fan base turning into that of Chelsea, Arse or City. Sorry - not for me.

I would still watch on TV & want the club to be successful but i would be at Lewes FC for my live football fix.

this actually wasnt what i was talking about, people said they would stop supporting the team...they would give up football supporting in general. obviously they said this cause we came from a position of strength in that topic...just want to know if its still the case..and to see if we are truly just like everyone else. which i think we are

either way, do you remember which thread it was?

Arsenal have managed well enough without a billionaire funding extravagant splurges. They also, lest we forget, have more titles than we do. Ergo, they seem at least as deserving as us of winning the lottery, if not more so. So why are we specially exempt from the scorn we pour on everyone else?

No, they'll need a much better argument than that to justify their hypocrisy.

The only one I find to be vaguely justifiable is the 'yeah, we won the lottery, but we weren't the first and we won't be the last' one. Though, again, you could argue that it has to stop somewhere.

It's why I want the investment to be limited to the stadium and/or fall within FFP guidelines. Else the accusations of hypocrisy will echo far, far into the future.

I'd be at the lane loving it. Just like I lived it when we were brick. Saying you won't go if we get a cash injection is just te other extreme of saying you won't go when we're brick. Barca an Real have huge debts. Man Utd do, Arsenal took them on to build a stadium to compete, Chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project, PSG, why shouldn't we fulfil our rightful potential just because someone has changed the rules? Nah, I say play to the new rules.

Feels unclean, I suppose. For all these years, from 1999 onwards, I've held on to the fact that we've lived within our means as a vindication of the essential goodness of our football values, a way of reminding other fans that we were where we were because we didn't take the easy way out ( if we were brick), and because of our own hard work and strategic planning (if, as is the case now, we were good).

In the end, I just don't know how I'd feel if we became a classier version of Emirates Marketing Project. I'm not one of the extremist souls who angrily declared that they'd never watch football again; I'm simply a wee bit afraid. Afraid of what I might realise.

I'd pull my jersey on, same as always. Head to the pub, same as always. Take the corner seat, same as always. Wait for my mates ,same as always.

But when the new team walks out....decked out in the same Spurs colours, but with superstars, bought with some Sheikh's cash, filling every spot on the team....

Would I still feel that pang of pride I normally feel?

I'm just afraid that maybe I won't.

I'd still support us in spite of my loathing of how football has become so heavily dominated by money. I hated that Emirates Marketing Project and Chelsea, the 2 prime suspects, we're most successful last season and I'll admit that I likely vented my anger on here. I do think, however, that with football having changed with the addition of money that we live in a new World football wise now and that having a wealthy owner is becoming almost as important as having a goalkeeper with regards to the prospects of potential success.

We will compete against other clubs who are heavily loaded until such a time when all clubs are owned by the rich and money will again become less significant as, although high fees and wages will remain prominent, the rich finances of each club will balance themselves out.

Yeah, but maybe having a mega-rich owner's not as essential as it's made out to be.

Last year, HSC Montpellier stormed to the Ligue Un title, despite being expected feature heavily in the relegation battle.

They beat out the likes of the oil-rich Paris St.Germain, managed by Ancelotti, and Olympique Lyon, with their various stars.

Last year, Borussia Dortmund stormed to the Bundesliga title, after spending relatively little and losing their best player in Nuri Sahin.

This despite having to fight off a Bayern side boosted wih a number of high-profile signings.

A couple of years ago, Lille won the title despite being at a financial disadvantage vis a vis Lyon and Marseille.

These examples are what make me feel so divided over the possibility of a Sheikh taking over. It IS possible to win a top flight title despite being financially inferior. So maybe, just maybe, we can do it?

It's a battle, it really is.

For what it's worth now is the time for someone to buy the club.

Just shown the potential to actually win the league
Got formal plans approved for a state of the art stadium
Now privately owned
Have a new improved manager (subjective I know)
And the big one... We are the biggest side in the country available to buy for the right price in a league where they have just agreed the highest tv rights in global sports

There would actually be a return on this investment compared to other sides... All be it a longer term piece.

However like most of us until I see it in writing from the club I'm sceptical

What makes me very sceptical about this is that Levy/Lewis/Enic will know exactly this.

We all know Lewis is in this to make money long term, why would he sell at this point? Unless the offer is from someone willing to overpay for Spurs about as much as Liverpool did for Carroll I just don't understand why the current owners would sell.

I'd say that they would sell as they won't invest to increase the value...

Ultimately you have to speculate to accumulate and that's always a gamble. ENIC and these type of financial institutions don't gamble as a matter of course (they leave that to the banks](*,))

They can get a profit by selling now and see it go on from there. Alternatively they can keep a lesser stake which is what has been rumoured whilst someone with more disposable cash comes on board.

Thats how most major capital investments work and makes sense.

Can you see ENIC gambling 500 million that they don't have on spurs? That would include the new stadium which ultimately would never be worth the actual build costs unless it has a team that people are willing to pay to see in it
