New takeover rumours

Honestly, I'd much prefer not. We don't really have a leg to stand on after bitching about City buying up the world if this happens. I'd much prefer shrewd tactics and signings by AVB than just going out and offering stupendous wages to everyone.

Oh and thoughts are, as long as this is someone paying us what they think sponsorship is worth, I have no problem with it. All money towards stadium.

I think the signing of Siggy shows that we ain't gonna go silly if it is true. Knowing Levy the stadium will be the priority and I'd agree if so.

This all seems to be connected to naming rights etc. Not a new owner throwing distorted sums of money into the club, so not the same... At least I hope not or Spurs won't be getting any of my money again.

Long term all the way.

In three* years our turnover would increase and we'd be able to spend more on wages/transfers.

*Optimistically.

I'd prefer this not too happen, getting a huge sponsorship deal or naming rights package, then fair enough, but the last thing I want is to be like Chelsea or city, our relative success is currently being earnt, I don't want us to throw that away.

What's if there are shiny things and bright different colored lights involved?

The way some ITK put it before, was that over the last few years we've spent money buying close to a 100% stake of the club, and in that time have taken us from mid-table nothingness to a nailed on top 6 side. So the idea is to then sell shares to some Arab consortium, use the cash to make us title challengers/get the stadium going, and then ultimately sell on most of the rest of the stake in the club to ultimately realise a profit on their initial investment.

I may have got some details of the supposed plan completely wrong there, and have no idea if it's plausible...but if we did do it that way, we could say we have done everything fairly, sustainably, within our means, and haven't simply used the cheat code of pumping cash into the club and running up huge losses. The cash we do pump in would have come from the value of the club, which is a lot more of a nicer way of looking at things IMO.

But again, I may have got that totally wrong.

I'd also add, that if it is simply the 'worst case' of us being sold off to a Sheikh, then there's not actually any great shame. When you're Chelsea and it happens, you can't really brag about the winnings because you're the only club in the league with unlimited funds. Then Emirates Marketing Project do it, and Chelsea are coming to the end of their cycle, and therefore it's still nothing to brag about. But sooner or later every club is either going to be backed by a Sugar Daddy or have some other means of competing financially, and we will just have to join in.

Not if FF... no.. just can't bring myself to finish it..

Here's the ITK I was on about, from Dragon1. This would be the fair way of doing things, the Tottenham way. It could be good if it was this, with Levy still at the helm, or naming rights.

''Am hearing that what Ben was referring too on Friday in terms of something big going down is significant investment in club rather than sale of takeover,am not sure of details as if Enic are selling lump of shares or if to do with naming rights and this is why no directors are allowed on holiday i until signed off

Find it interesting Enic through various measures have gained 100% control of spurs over the last eleven years and de listed from stock exchange, they could quite easily sell 40% say for two hundred million fund npd turn us into title winners and cl winners etc with a brand new ground and development our value would go up dramatically probably around the 700-800milllion mark and Enic would still own 60% of this

The second bit of my post on ftl was just me saying think was interesting not itk I have no idea what stake Enic would sell and for how much but for those not thinking two to three hundred million cash injection would not make huge difference are wrong

Enic through last eleven years have gradually bought 100 per cent of club, large amounts of npd have been paid for, levy has confirmed ninety million has been spent on land and demolishing buildings etc,the sainsburys deal is worth eighty million and we are getting 27 million from govt/mayor of London ,cost of npd is some 400 million we have about two hundred million left to pay
''

Some of the language is a bit stupid - 'turn us into title winners, CL winners etc' as if it is that easy, but it's an interesting way of going about things. It seems very 'Levy' to do something like this to be honest.

It would be silly of the club to reveal if there's new money coming in until after we've finished in the transfer market.

Someone coming along and investing 1000m in THFC would be great. Now that Chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project have already done it, the only way to really make it fair is for everyone to start doing it. The only way to stop those clubs is for us (and others) to do it.

It's not true, and I'll use my beloved New York Yankees as an analogous example. For the past 15 years or so, they have outspent every professional baseball team significantly. Their player payroll is over 200 million dollars per year, the second highest team at its pinnacle, the Red Sox, were around 160, and third was in the 120s. Everyone else is under 100 usually. The Yankees win often, but in the past 15 years, they've won 4 times. Other baseball teams have beaten them by scouting better, building up their younger core, playing smarter, and not getting into ridiculous contracts. It can happen in football too.

Granted, the major difference in baseball is that players honor their contracts and don't bitch and whine, and there is a free agent system instead of purchasing players, but still. It can happen. Spurs can do it (hopefully, eventually). It would be so much more honorable to do it this way rather than go the way of Emirates Marketing Project and Chelsea. It wouldn't even be fun to root for Spurs at that point if they can throw 200k a week at guys like Edin Dzeko because they're the flavor of the month. I'd just start following MK Dons or something.

Depends. As long as we're within FFP rules, maybe. Even then, a lot will depend on how high our wages to turnover will get and whether the majority of the money will go towards the stadium or the players.

But if the investment means we openly flaunt FFP? Splash gazillions and shamelessly buy the 'Tottenham Hotspur, 2012-2013' engraving on the PL trophy? Make a mockery of everything the club's stood for?

Then, to put it politely, go to hell, sharmoo6a.

I have to smile when I read some people saying that paying top prices and wages would be against what this club stands for. In the late 50's this club started to out bid other clubs and after the wage restriction paid the best wages. We loved it at the time, thats how we got Jones, Greaves, Gilzean, England, Chivers et al.
