New DoF?

Re: Baldini as new DoF?

I always thought the Director of Football was a little bit more involved than just transfers. It could be that he's never actually "discovered" anyone because it was never his role to do so, and Levy will still handle most of the transfer negotiations.

Re: Baldini as new DoF?

a bit off topic... ginola back?

David Ginola has revealed he would love to manage in the Premier League and says Tottenham will always hold a special place in his heart.
The Frenchman had a three-year spell at White Hart Lane during his playing career and is now back at the club taking his coaching badges.
He says he would love to work in English football once he has qualified, having also enjoyed his time with Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Aston Villa and Everton as a player.
"I'm passing my coaching badges in England. I need them to manage a team in the Premier League," he said French paper Le Progres.
"I live in London, and I'm doing my badges at Tottenham. People at the club have not forgotten me, and I have not forgotten them."
Ginola also played for four French clubs but says he loved playing in England because the supporters are so passionate.
He said: "Football is an institution in England - but your typical Frenchman isn't a fan."

Re: Baldini as new DoF?

Have you got any evidence that they were his finds or was he just at the club when they were signed? What was his role at Madrid under Capello?

I know Madrid have a president, but you'd imagine signing teenagers from South America, as opposed to Gallaticos, was the work of the DoF.

Baldini was definitely DoF at Roma. I'm not sure what his title was at Madrid, but scouting and technical matters are his forte. Even with England these were his areas, rather than any coaching.

Don't they do it anyway? And surely it's scouts that find the players and then report back to the DoF....which is exactly what they do under a Manager?

So you do not know that Higuain and Gago were his 'finds', it was guesswork

Franco Baldini set to reject Spurs technical director job

By Simon Austin
BBC Sport
Spurs are looking for a new technical director but their preferred choice, Roma general manager Franco Baldini, is set to turn down any approach.
Chairman Daniel Levy wants to return to a continental structure at the club.
Baldini, 51, speaks excellent English, has contacts throughout European football and a good relationship with boss Andre Villas-Boas.
But the former England general manager wants to complete his work at Roma, the club he rejoined in July 2011.
Levy is eager to return to the kind of structure Spurs had until October 2008, when Damien Comolli was dismissed as director of football.
Comolli had overall responsibility for the club's academy, scouting and recommending transfer targets, but was not replaced, with new manager Harry Redknapp deciding on signings in consultation with Levy.
Villas-Boas, who was linked with the Roma manager's job last season, is comfortable with the idea of bringing in a technical director.
Baldini was director of football at Roma from 1999 to 2005, and rejoined the Serie A club as general manager in July 2011.

Andre Villas-Boas claims Tim Sherwood will be overlooked for the role as director of football at Tottenham

Sherwood, who has an outstanding reputation as technical co-ordinator at White Hart Lane, is one of the most sought after names in the game

Despite Sherwood's increasing standing within the sport, he will not be promoted to the top job according to Villas-Boas.

The Spurs chief said: 'In the way we want to build I think Daniel Levy sees Tim continuing as technical co-ordinator, working with the development squad

'In modern organisations there should be a link between the chairman and the football team

'There are different ways to interpret this gap. In England there is a manager with more responsibilities, but for me, as a head coach, it is better to have a director of football.

'It helps us to work closer with the first team. The director of football can have contacts with players and agents, as well as bridging the gap with youth football and with the scouting structure.'

Meanwhile, Villas-Boas has admitted he could be powerless to prevent Sherwood leaving the club if Blackburn come calling.

Sherwood, who captained Rovers to the Premier League title in 1995, has reportedly been targeted by the Lancashire club should current boss Steve Kean leave.

Villas-Boas said in The Sun: 'It would not be up to me to say yes or no. It would be up to the club and Tim.'

Not sure about this, looks to me like AVB is getting all his ducks in a row quite nicely (even if he thinks it a good idea), I can't help but think back to the Santini/Arnesen car crash.

Personally I think AVB is the architect of it, rather than just acquiescence about it. Perhaps he just didn't want another transfer window with Levy as acting DoF!

Few rumours in Italy tonight that Baldini is going to be appointed tomorrow (Wednesday):

News alert for Tottenham and Roma, as Roma general manager Franco Baldini called an unexpected presser for tomorrow at 2.30pm

and

so earlier rumour about baldini not wanting the job is untrue?

TBH I know nothing about trixi or baldini, but here's what i found on wikipedia:

Franco Baldini (born 3 October 1960) is a former Italian footballer who is currently working as the General Manager for AS Roma, a position he has been in since October 2011Born in Reggello, Italy, Baldini most notably played for Bari and Bologna.[SUP][/SUP]
In 1981 he was called up to the Italian U-21 squad but did not go on to make a competitive appearance.[SUP][/SUP]
He became director of football at Associazione Sportiva Roma in 1999, where he remained until his resignation in March 2005.[SUP][/SUP]
He joined Fabio Capello at Real Madrid in 2006.[SUP][/SUP]
When Capello took over as the England manager in December 2007, Baldini became assistant manager.[SUP][/SUP] His role at the national team of England involved scouting, managing the supporting staff (e.g. the doctors, physiotherapists, masseurs and kit managers) and making the job as easy as possible for his Italian counterpart.
He left England after their successful EURO 2012 qualification and joined Roma before the start of 2012, but was assisting the team far before then. Since then, current Roma manager Luis Enrique, director Walter Sabatini and himself have undergone a huge revolution at the club with new owner Thomas Di Benedetto to try and instil a system of running a football club similar to that of FC Barcelona.

surely AVB knows that whoever does the leg work its still gonna be Levy agreeing terms, we could have had Nick Clegg running the Moutinho deal, apologising for everything but there would still have been a conversation that ended in Levy telling Porto to fudge themselves
