I'm still struggling to see how Sissoko was the problem on Saturday? I saw Lamela and Moura playing far too close to Kane and Winks fail to play a single incisive pass despite being the player in our team who was afforded all the time and space. Eriksen coming on for Winks immediately resolved the issue with him using the time and space to play passes that actually got us into attacking positions instead of just allowing Villa to regroup behind the ball.

NDombele wasn’t the problem
The flat 3 midfield was the issue (it’s not a fecking diamond with no width)
The change started in second half when Lamela and Moura played wide (Lamela hugged the left touchline constantly)
Then the swap in midfield (id have taken off the ineffective NDombele personally) gave us less people covering the same space and low and behold we went up another gear

You contradict yourself. Sissoko read the game, drove forward and made the pass (an assist) which served a clear purpose.

I'm not sure how much reading of a game you think is required to Forrest Gump one's way up the pitch every time half a gap appears, but it's not a lot.

As I said before I think we'll see lots of rotation this year. I think all of our midfield will get a decent number of games and we'll be all the better for it towards the end of the season as we push for trophies. I think at present Wanyama and Dier are the two midfield players furthest from starting games but we'll hopefully play lots of games this season and even they will be able to make appearances.

I'm not sure Wanyama will ever get back to full health. If he does, I suspect the pecking order to be NDombele, Winks, Dier, Wanyama, Sissoko if we play a double pivot, with Lo Celso's position depending a lot upon whether or not we keep Eriksen.

He started on the right side of the 442 diamond where he played the majority of last season. Then he was shifted out to the right side of a 4231 where he had played in previous seasons and been terrible. Then he finished off in beside Ndombele in central midfield in 4231. This is where Poch started playing in at the end of the season when Winks got injured.


Do you guys actually watch Sissoko or are you too busy making excuses on Twitter or whatever during the games.

Your posts are always black and white mostly focusing on the negative.

You posted on Llorente leaving the club recently with a post breaking down his contribution to goals per million pounds I think, completely ignoring his valuable contributions last season. You've now moved on to Sissoko.

On Saturday what I saw, a pass to Eriksen, well executed which Eriksen crossed for the Sanchez chance that eventually led to the first goal. I saw a powerful run, after bringing the ball down on his chest, that took out two Villa players then laid off to Kane for his second goal. I saw him win several corners on the right hand side that should have given us situations to create a goal. That we wasted them was not his fault. I saw a bad miss from an angle. I saw a lot of running and simple lay offs rather than progressive passes. So as with everyone on Saturday, some good some bad. But I do not ignore the good and only accentuate the bad and then post some of the most patronising posts on the board.

I don't think Sissoko will necessarily be first choice going forward, but he's a far better and more influential player than the haters suggest.

Then you've missed the point of this thread -Sissoko is always the problem. Thankfully Poch is more nuanced in his assessment of players' performances.

Sissoko is, by a margin, the weakest footballer on our books - I include goalkeepers in that as well. So he will always be a part of the problem in breaking down defences. He's rarely all of the problem but he's always a large part of it.

Kane can (and regularly has) scored from positions where the ball isn't where he'd like it. I would expect a professional footballer to make a 5 yard pass accurately more often than not. It appears that standards around here have dipped below that.

I’ve watched this goal over and over again and can’t think where you actually think you’re able to criticise the pass legitimately. This is ignoring all the other good passes Sissoko made throughout the game (a ridiculous phrase to have to write, but such is the polarisation of the debate I feel the need to point out the good first time ball out to Eriksen which lead to the cross for the first goal. Not in and of itself a miraculous pass, but good technique that you routinely accuse him of not being able to demonstrate.) but the goal in particular is just a good pass.

Look at where Kane is pointing and where he receives it. It's still a goal because Kane, but that doesn't excuse fluffing the pass.
