Setting aside Poch's comments of only 4 incoming, this doesnt feel entirely unbelieveable, even in a zero (or close to zero) net-spend world. Depending on what you believe the fees were, it looks like we might get a bit over £100m coming in from:
Walker: £45m upfront
Bentaleb: £16m
NJie: £6m
Fazio: £3m
Wimmer: £15m
Sissoko: £20m (hopefully)
And then incomings mainly based on the rumoured names:
Sanchez £28m excl add-ons
Gazzaniga: £2m
Diop: £10m
Foyth: £10m
Barkley: £25m
AN Other: £20m - £30m (Aurier, Balde, Dembele, Sessegnon etc)
...you get to a similar number. I know there are different views however I'd hope that the final name would be someone who could beat a man in/around the box
Well, bear in mind that accounting for our transfers this way means that we're still carrying the 30m net spend from last season - I've tended to discount the mid-season/early summer sales (like Bentaleb and Fazio) in my calculations of how much we can spend, because to me those sales are making up for last summer's surprising splash.
Other than that, I agree, it's certainly quite *possible* - but I'm still a bit unconvinced that it will happen. As for Sanchez, there are only 2m in add-ons as per Ajax - the deal is 28m + the rest in installments, not add-ons. So they have to be accounted for.
Ditto. It might mean the door for Janssen if it does happen but I do think Dembele has a higher ceiling than Janssen.
The heart thing is obviously a concern but obviously not a big enough one that Celtic and previously Fulham stopped him playing.
Sanchez + Dembele + Barclay/Martial for the first team,
Sessegnon (x2) + Foyth + Sancho for the squad would be a great window.
I could technically see Janssen staying were we to alter our formation a bit.
At present, we set up something like this -
-------------Lloris----------
------Dier---Toby---Verts---
Trips--Wanyama-Dembele-Rose
----------Eriksen--Alli--------
---------------Kane-----------
....with a three-man back line, or with two CBs (Toby and Verts) and a third AM (Son) next to Eriksen and Alli.
If we tried something like this instead -
-----------------Lloris-------------
--------Dier----Toby----Verts---
Trips--Wanyama-Eriksen--Rose
-----------------Alli---------------
-----------Kane----Son-----------
...with Son as the pacy 'dribbling' forward alongside Kane up top, then we could have space for both Janssen and Dembele (if it's true, of course). Janssen would simply take Kane's spot as the physical centre-forward, and Dembele would take Son's spot as the pacy dribbling forward next to him.
It would mean relegating Dembele to the bench in favour of Eriksen in midfield alongside Wanyama, but a) that's likely to happen over the next couple of years anyway, given his age and fitness, and b) it fits more with a team-structure that also allows for seamless replacement of the two central midfielders when necessary. Dembele can take up Wanyama's role as a ball carrier/destroyer, and Winks can take up Eriksen's role as a distributor, and it would be more like-for-like than having Winks as Dembele's direct replacement (given the dissimilarity between the two players).
The only downside to this is that a) we won't have much space for Barkley or another AM, and b) I'm not sure Eriksen can pull off a deep central midfield role alongside Wanyama without leaving us a bit exposed at the back. But it could be done.
