Mousa Dembele

I have not said anywhere we are better without him, my point was/is that with the injurys he carries the chances are he will be missing at times. A few pages back i posted that Poch has to find a way were we do not have to relie on him, with the additions we have now i believe we are in a better position to do just that.
Sorry, I must have misunderstood the part where you said "for the record i do not think that the team without him is worse". I agree with you that our current midfield options are pretty beastly and Dembele has been fragile over the years.

Agree with most of that, as for the building our team around him there are a lot of fans who think/believe we are not as good without him so i am not sure they believe that. ( for the record i do not think that the team without him is worse)

I think last season it undoubtedly was, it was also worse without him in his first season with us as well, until he got injured, he then came back in the death throws of the AVB regime and didn't look the same, like everyone else in that period (unfortunately it's this period at the end of AVB's time that people remember and he seems to be the face of that period for some reason?).

The early signs this season are that we can cope without him now though, but what a luxury to have to be able to bring in a gun like that to an already good side?! He'd still be first name on the team sheet in my cup final side.

Well from the results it was evident that last season we were a worse team without him, and to be honest I think we were a better team with him, however the same could also be said about Harry Kane, yet this season we have been able to get good results without both players. Bottom line when Dembele and Kane are available we will be even stronger, I see it as a win win

Massive win win

We have altered our game to adjust to losing Dembele and now Kane and it gives us a different mix if we need it/want it so that's not bad thing whilst we're getting results

I was talking about the team now, i think we have a squad that can manage without him if we have too. And i doubt his injurys will improve as he gets older which means we have to find a way of " not missing " him as much as we used to.

These stats are from last season:

With Dembélé in the side Spurs won 51% of their games, compared to 44% without him. Without him, the loss rate was 44%, including both games against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Southampton and West Ham. With him, Spurs lost just 2 games, a mere 7% of the time. Without Dembélé in the side, Spurs conceded 13 goals (1.44 per game) and scored 12 (1.33 per game). With him, 57 were scored (1.97 per game) and 22 conceded (0.76 per game).

You be the judge of whether we are better with or without.
How're we doing this season without him?

A fully fit Dembele would be one of the first (if not the first) on the team sheet for me.

It really is a question of just how debillitating his injury is. Really hope it is not a "King type situation".

That would be really cruel to both us and him.

I agree with Parklane. Dembele is such a key player for us, but if he continues to pick up niggling injuries then Poch will no doubt have to start planning for life without him. The good thing for us is he seems to come back up to speed immediately like King, he doesn't need 5 games to regain his form.

I thought his injury was a muscle pull?

He also was called up for the internationals so surely it isn't that bad

I think people focus on Dembele injuries too much in a similar way to Anderson - a player who averaged one games less for us than Roy Keane did for United but he never got tarnished with the "sick note" name

The reason why he has that stigma attached i think is because he is a top player and is missed. Compare to with Mason... (and I'm a Mason fan).. he wasn't missed anywhere near as much and it was clear a there wasn't the calls for him to be playing

Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele suffers another injury setback in training

Mousa Dembélé has suffered a foot injury in training that, according to Mauricio Pochettino, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, is causing him pain when he kicks the ball. It is the latest setback to hit the midfielder and Pochettino said he would undergo further tests on Friday.

That's him out for Saturday most probably.

Lucky for us that Wanyama has been outstanding and Sissoko has done alright so far.

Sissoko has gone up greatly in my estimation, I have to say. Mind he did start from a very low base.

Wanyama is great, he will out soon due yellow though?

As i said before we have to have a plan B as Dembélé keeps missing games with injury. Thankfully with the incomings in the summer Poch is planning ahead and if/when he misses games this season ( and the chances are he will) we now have players who can fit in.

Any player showing vulnerabilities for whatever reasons will be moved on.
Pochettino is rightly being quite ruthless.

That would not surprise me at all, Poch is nearing his aim to build a finished team ( imo). Now if one of the regular players keeps picking up injurys and at 29 that is not going to stop then i would imagine he would do something to make sure we have a replacement.

As i say he is a good player but we can/should not build a team that has one of its major players likely to keep missing games.

It might just be me, but I don't think Dembele is proving himself to be injury prone. I think in comparison to other clubs we have much less serious injuries. Within the group of players, Moussa is one of those that has probably had the highest out of our players, but I'd imagine that if you compare him to any other box to box midfielder in the Premiership, he'd probably be considered to not have any major injury problems.

Either way, I don't think Pochettino is building the team around any player. Instead he is building the players to fit his system and team. Moussa has a hell of a lot to offer and I would be bold enough to say that he will have a real impact for us this season.
