Mousa Dembele

This has been said every time he has gone a couple of games without a goal over the last couple of games. Every time so far he has bounced back quickly and gone on a spree.
I also love the gonads reporting about his career-long August goal drought. That has lasted exactly two years.

Martinez said he's not fit for Belgium's next games.

Not good news, the last three seasons he has managed to be on the field 27, 26, 29 times. He is now 29 and it could be his injury problems could get worse with age. He is such a major player to us but it would not surprise me if Poch starts looking at other options.

We will be looking for a replacement from next summer unfortunately or maybe Poch thinks he may go a different route, Winks + ?? = new Dembele?

i think we'll be moving more towards this 4141 that we have seen in recent games meaning one anchor (Dier/Wanyama) and a mix of our attacking options in the front five positions

Averaging almost 30 games a season is actually pretty good in this day and age

He wasn't fit for us so how on earth he was ever meant to be fit for Belgium

I think billy is probably right with his post, nothing against Dembélé but a good manager ( which Poch is) will look to the future and sad to say Dembélé is not getting any younger and his injurys are probably going to be with him.

As good as he is if we can not be sure he is going to be fit for the majority of the games ( and sad to say his history shows that is likely to be the case) then Poch will look forward. Not saying that Sissoko is the player but Poch may think he can do the job.

Dembele wasn't that player for quite a while.
The man has almost as much silk as Kanoute.
He is a Rolls Royce player, his technique of holding onto possession should be on the syllabus of every central midfielder prospect for the next 25 years.

I like the 4141 formation. With our current crop of AM's it is surely the formation which currently suits us best. When/if Dembele is fit again he could easily slot into that formation - especially for the tougher matches.

Nowhere have i doubted his ability and i agree he is special, however if he is not going to be fit for a good part of the season it means nothing.

He can make a contribution. That is all anyone can ever do.
We are a squad challenging for the title not a first team looking for irrelevant platitudes.

Surely having the international break/rest for Dembele means he's recovered whatever minor sprain he sustained? I prefer seeing our starting eleven when his name is on the team sheet.

Wow - he was suspended for 4 games, came back and strained his hamstring (which often happens when people return from suspension/long lay-offs)...and now he's being written out of long-term plans??
I remember reading the Liverpool thread about how we desperately needed him back because we were half a team without him...If we lose a couple I'm sure the clamour for him to return will increase ten-fold.

Pretty sure he'll be back in the next couple of weeks.

Fortunately our squad has improved to such a level whereby we do not rely on him as much as we did last season so our philosophy should be to simply enjoy him when he is available. It is not like we are building our team around him so we have nothing to lose, Also, it is not like we have registered 25 senior players over the age of 21 and he was keeping a player out of the first team squad

Agree with most of that, as for the building our team around him there are a lot of fans who think/believe we are not as good without him so i am not sure they believe that. ( for the record i do not think that the team without him is worse)

These stats are from last season:

With Dembélé in the side Spurs won 51% of their games, compared to 44% without him. Without him, the loss rate was 44%, including both games against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Southampton and West Ham. With him, Spurs lost just 2 games, a mere 7% of the time. Without Dembélé in the side, Spurs conceded 13 goals (1.44 per game) and scored 12 (1.33 per game). With him, 57 were scored (1.97 per game) and 22 conceded (0.76 per game).

You be the judge of whether we are better with or without.

I have not said anywhere we are better without him, my point was/is that with the injurys he carries the chances are he will be missing at times. A few pages back i posted that Poch has to find a way were we do not have to relie on him, with the additions we have now i believe we are in a better position to do just that.
