Mousa Dembele

Interesting stat on the Premier League's website today:

Never knew about this. Something in it or just a coincidence? Certainly seems like too statistically significant to ignore...

What is in it, is Dembele opens up space for the 3 behind Kane. Real. Very real. Wanyama showed he has it in his locker too - recall the move where he carries the ball out of our box, holds off a couple of pool players and makes a perfect pass for Rose (who let it dribble out of play).

I think it'd be highly unprofessional if they weren't ready in the first week of September.
Match fit tends to come from playing competitive matches. He could be running shuttles everyday and would still need a few games to regain sharpness

I'm just looking at how sluggish we look in our first 3 games.... Liverpool especially and they have many internationals working through the summer too.
Um... Poch gave his main players a few weeks off to recover after the Euros. Klopp played his Euro players in preseason games. The stats were held up on here to show that Klopp had "cleverly" gotten 300 minutes into the legs of his players, whereas Poch had "foolishly" only got 83 minutes into his players' legs. Then people are surprised we looked sluggish.

Let me spell it out for you in case you can't do the math yourself; we are still doing preseason.

Poch deliberately rested players so they won't burn out. They had a rest. They are still getting up to speed. The theory is that Klopp's players will sustain injuries and mental fatigue before Christmas. You will argue we can't afford to drop points this early in the season as the big spending 3 have all got 9 out of 9. Yeah I know. But Poch is thinking longer term. It is a p.l.a.n.

Last season we started slow and yet burned out in the last few games. And threw away for the chance to end higher than arsenal.

I think this is old fashioned and there must be better way. For instance maxing out subs. Or not asking Kane to start every game.

I'd put that down to missing key players for the run in and not having a deep enough squad rather than burning out. Hopefully, that's been rectified this summer.

Regarding burnout, we played a lot more games than anyone else in the league last season and coped with it pretty well. It is unlikely that we will play as many fixtures this year and we have a squad better equipped to fight on multiple fronts.

I still feel that run of THREE MONDAY NIGHT GAMES IN A ROW took a toll on the team.

I think that losing Dembele was the difference between second and third
Agreed. I think the three games in a row ruined our slight chance of first and lead to the tension and strain that lead to losing Dembele which was the difference between second and third.

our collapse to Saudi Sportswashing Machine can't all be attributed to just missing dembele.
i think poch ran out of steam himself at the end.

Agreed. And today there was an article on F365 saying Kane is burnt out... when the opposite is true, he had a rest and hasn't been set on fire yet, let alone burnt out. Idiots all around me.

This has been said every time he has gone a couple of games without a goal over the last couple of games. Every time so far he has bounced back quickly and gone on a spree.
