Mousa Dembele

"Tottenham argued that three matches would have been sufficient and it is known they were bemused that Costa, having been poked in the left eye, initially grabbed his right one. The club also cited Dembele’s lack of previous for violent conduct during his six seasons in English football. But the FA’s independent regulatory commission rejected their arguments and ordered that the three extra games were appropriate. Dembele will miss the final two fixtures of this season – against Southampton and Saudi Sportswashing Machine – and the first four of the next domestic campaign. Tottenham have no right of appeal.

Dembele is known as a mild-mannered character and his only previous brush with authority during his time in England was the harsh red card that he received for his previous club, Fulham, in a Europa League tie at Wisla Krakow in 2011. Dembele pushed Wisla’s Gervasio Nunez, who went to ground theatrically."

Great read. Loved this paragraph too

There have been other figures within the game who said that they would prefer Leicester to finish as the champions, including the Swansea City manager, Francesco Guidolin. He said so on the eve of his club’s game at Leicester on 24 April, in which Swansea slumped to a 4-0 defeat. Pochettino believes that all of them have been unprofessional and he wants the issue to be raised and discussed at the next Premier League meeting.

Dont care if some people think it is sour grapes, but go on Poch, stir up a hornets nest, probably wont get us anywhere, but for the past 30 years, neither has being the good guys and keeping our gobs shut.

6 games feels over the top to me, particularly when you think that an elbow can do as much damage yet Fellaini gets 3 games

Anyway, we needed a 3rd decent CM for next season given that there was a huge gap between Dier/Demebele and our 3rd choice this season (regardless of whether you think that 3rd choice is Mason, Carroll or Bentaleb)...now getting that new CM is even more important
I beleieve there is way more to come from Bentaleb ability wise but I'm not sure he has the right mental fortitude to stay the course with us (or has bought into the philosophy as Poch would say), but I sincerely hope I'm reading it wrong.

Carroll for me is a 10. He moves the ball quickly and has good vision but defensively he is a space marker. He doesn't read the game defensively well enough yet to play the CM role. Mason is a bit like that too. They are both good players but not even close to the same level as Dembele/Dier, as you say. 4 matches into the next season and we may have already blown any chance at a title. We gotta get the right guy in from match one, whoever that might be.

What an absolute disgrace 6 games is. Anyone who puts anything on that despicable clam Costa should be lauded not punished!!

How can you have no right of appeal?
A detailed report on what makes this a special case must be published. I have no issue on the punishment in itself, but if we need to know why it has been seen in a different light to other violent offences.
From now on I would be sending video of every incident to the FA and asking them to take action and explain the reasons behind their decisions.

I still cant believe the fact Costa grabs the wrong side of his face in the first instant is deemed irrelevant

Having watched the match on a stream courtesy of NBC sports with Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe and then listened to the commentary dished up by Sky Sports the day after the following day, I can understand why all my colleagues at work on the Tuesday kept coming up to me and saying "Blimey your lot lost it last night!". Sky Sports come out with brick only slightly above the level of Talk5hite and the great british public (and I include people on here) seemed to have been suckered in to believing all the hype. Thankfully the rest of the world seemed to be getting a more measured view on things. Unfortunately the FA seem to be in the pocket of their paymasters.

Six games what a joke, but I'm not surprised in the least.

Dembele and Tottenham paying the price for the way that game was allowed to get out of control by the shocking officiating that night.
Officiating was not good, but the Tottenham and Chelsea players could and should have shown more restraint. I think this is harsh but I am finding it hard to defend Dembele's actions. It's not something I ever want to see from a Spurs player again.

I'm totally in the opposite camp. I reiterate not the hand on face (although I wish He would've blinded the clam and deserve the 6 game ban personally) but the tackles etc.. I need TP for my bunghole I loved it.

A throwback to when football was football not netball!!

There is no defending his actions, but they should also not be singled out without due reason. We (the FA) think it is, isn't good enough. They need to explain, in detail, why it justifies a further three game ban.

I don't mind hard tackles mate, in fact I love it and I must also admit Lamela walking on fabregas' hand was hilarious. But hard tackles are a means to an end, the end must always be to win a football match. I don't like biting, eye gouging spitting, it's cowardly.

Totally agree.

I hope we have someone in the black box sending in a tape after each match to the FA highlighting very single transgression of the opposition that the officials missed.

For years they have been dallying around and making excuses about trial by replay, it's only used in extreme cases, then when Spurs are in a title race they haul it out twice in two weeks. It fudging stinks.

It is a real disgrace to give 6 match ban to Dembele. He should not have done what he did but it is not as bad as it appeared. Costa didn't even get injured from that ! We should contest this ban all the way if it is possible.

Those last 10 minutes was a bit like watching Mean Machine. Eric Dier was Danny Meehan. Although it not what people want to see these days, it was like a throwback to 1970s football matches featuring Hunter,Bremner,Harris and Smith

Oh BTW, Mousa, should get the No. 6 Shirt next season. Badge of honour.

He won't be needing any shirt till next September........

What a numpty he is, he will miss the first 4 games of the season, that could cost us again.

And some want to give him a pat on the back......beggars belief
