Mousa Dembele

Lamella got away with it as he was clearly seen by the officials as they discussed it at the time and it's hard to even claim intent when he wasn't looking at him (although I think it was clearly intentional)

...I wonder, too, if the tart's reaction made it clear he was playing for Broadway? Thus they knew right there that Lamela couldn't have done much.

6 games feels over the top to me, particularly when you think that an elbow can do as much damage yet Fellaini gets 3 games

Anyway, we needed a 3rd decent CM for next season given that there was a huge gap between Dier/Demebele and our 3rd choice this season (regardless of whether you think that 3rd choice is Mason, Carroll or Bentaleb)...now getting that new CM is even more important

I think generally you can deduce we are not a popular club. Let's face it, we don't do thing the 'old school' way, you know, the 'Fat Sam/Pulis' way, the 'old-school-chairman' way...goes back to post-Scholar IMVHO...

Can you elaborate a bit more on this; i'm hooked and intrigued...i can sort of feel it but not quite fully to come up with details etc

This post will be general mate, just using your words as a launching pad!

Still wrong though. 4 would've been 'just about' understandable. I think the most amusing thing is how people (including some here) have run riot with the words 'eye-gouge'...he didn't! He grabbed his face. Not clever and not excusable by any stretch (a flat-hand to the nose or even a shove to the forehead would've clearly been better - or the hold grail - take him out in play a minute or two later) but there were no fingers in the eye (or eyes). The way this one got spun, you'd have thought he blinded him through the socket!

Let's be honest here. Moose is paying the price for

1) a lack of discipline - no problem, 3 game ban on the chin IMO and don't do it again
2) Clattenberg's pathetic 'performance'
3) 3 weeks of pre-match public comments by Chelsea players and management
4) an immediate intimidation and bullying which escalated as the game went on

We lost it, yes. At 2-0 we should've been hitting the deck at every single thing they did to us, not retaliating clearly and obviously. That is how you win dark arts football. But again, we will learn, and sadly, I think some of our supporters ned to get to grips with this reality, that in order to win you have to engage, or else go decades without a trophy. It doesn't mean sacrificing your football, it means supplementing it when necessary and in the face of tossers. Like Fergie's Utd.

I was surprised that they let Lamela away with it, and can only assume that they knew if they penalized him, they'd have had to ban Fabregas for several things, not the least of which was inciting a brawl at the final whistle and (of course) starting all this with his 'informed' comments on Sky.

I'm not saying that it is the ban he deserved but if you had asked me to name the length of ban he would face on Monday night, I would have said six games.

I have been of the same opinion for the last couple of months, after Dier/Dembele we have a lack of cover and the 3 you mention are not up to it.

To be honest though, its similar in other positions:

- Son is a step down from Alli, Eriksen and Lamela
- Njie is way below Kane

If we want to take the CL seriously, we need a new CM, AM and CF so that we can rest first choice players without materially weakening the team

I hear what you are saying but ( imo) I do not think either Son or Njie have had enough games ( especially Njie) to really say if they can step up more. I am not saying that they would/will be as good as Kane or Lamela but the difference may not be as big as the CM players who back up Dier/Dembele.

Why did you think that btw?

It looks bad on first viewing (less so on subsequent viewings), the FA needed to be seen to do something and it was the easiest decision for them to make.

I think that the FA made a big mistake saying that three games was insufficient when they charged him. I think a fair punishment would have been a three game ban with a further three game suspended sentence (not the best choice of phrase but I am struggling to think of a clearer way of putting it) because of his previous good disciplinary record in English football.

This is a point that you have made loads of times before @parklane1 I don't think that we need to take this thread off topic by you going over your views on Mason and Bentaleb again.

If you read back a few posts you will see I only posted a reply to some who made ref to Mason etc. So you are wrong that I was taking the thread off topic. Or did you not see that and just jumped on my post?

"Tottenham argued that three matches would have been sufficient and it is known they were bemused that Costa, having been poked in the left eye, initially grabbed his right one. The club also cited Dembele’s lack of previous for violent conduct during his six seasons in English football. But the FA’s independent regulatory commission rejected their arguments and ordered that the three extra games were appropriate. Dembele will miss the final two fixtures of this season – against Southampton and Saudi Sportswashing Machine – and the first four of the next domestic campaign. Tottenham have no right of appeal.

Dembele is known as a mild-mannered character and his only previous brush with authority during his time in England was the harsh red card that he received for his previous club, Fulham, in a Europa League tie at Wisla Krakow in 2011. Dembele pushed Wisla’s Gervasio Nunez, who went to ground theatrically."

there is nothing worse in this situation than the "he's not that kind of player" argument, I hope the club publicly shut up about it now

buy privately stew against the obvious anti Spurs agenda in football and fortify a siege mentality that lasts a decade

How can you have no right of appeal?
A detailed report on what makes this a special case must be published. I have no issue on the punishment in itself, but if we need to know why it has been seen in a different light to other violent offences.
From now on I would be sending video of every incident to the FA and asking them to take action and explain the reasons behind their decisions.

That's an interesting point, who actually chooses what videos are reviewed and who supplies them?
