How can a release clause be secret? It is a sum of money that the club accepts will automatically release a player from his contract if paid. By its very nature, it cannot be secret.... otherwise it can neverf be triggered....

Exactly. If it is secret the selling club could always move the goal posts as they wished, without the player or his agency having to know anything. It doesn't make sense.

It's a clause to get a player to sign a new contract, in theory only known to the player and club. In practice all clubs appear to know release clauses associated with any player. Don't think Forest have a leg to stand on. Just as posters are saying, an over wrought chairman (who's supposed to no longer have a controlling interest in the club) wagging his willy for the purposes of showing Forest fans he's not just bending over for us.

I think players by and large care that the club they are joining has a real plan for them. Obviously money is also a factor, but another club suddenly deciding this late to take MGW from us doesn’t seem likely.

2 people know a top confidential secret

A third person suddenly knows the secret

Don't blame the third person. They didn't blab their mouth off. Not their fault.

My opinion on this one. Accuse NFFC of leaking their own secret. Play them at their own stupid game.

£60m is a fair price and players will always eventually get what they want anyway.

And I like Madders but he has massive pitfalls which really explains why he is at a Spurs and not a CIty

Absolutely, he's far too inconsistent and top clubs need to be ruthless and discard players who can't push us on. People saying we're already stacked in that position ignore we finished 17th. Every position can be upgraded and if there's an opportunity to do so then we should take it.

Not strictly true. If you use information that you know to be confidential then you can be liable for breach of confidentiality.
Proving it in this instance of course is another matter.

All moot anyway as Forest are not going to pursue this. As others have said, it’s a face-saving rant from their owner.

Just on the whole "Forest trying to get larger bids in" idea, it doesn't work. A release clause is a release clause as in, you agree to deposit £60m and he is released from his contract. In that context, it doesnt matter if another club offers £100m, he is still entitled to choose us over them if we have met the release clause. Once the release clause is triggered, Forest effectively lose control of the situstion. Which is probably why they are f*cked off

True, but if Spurs offer him £130kpw and someone else offers £180kpw, he will probably go there. We need to get this over the line.

Wouldn't be the first time thats happened to us. Think Luis Dias and Willian being two of the top of my mind

As said if we knew about his release clause the big clubs would have also known. They didn't come in for him. Seems they have their own targets.
