Mohammed Kudus

And Richy and Romero
Although the latter won’t happen because no one will pay the fee we want
Bissouma too
They'd all need to be directly replaced. And all 3 are past their prime value wise (over 25 is when fees start plummeting), and on short contracts. So we'd end up spending more to replace them with potentially less immediately useful players. They arent cash cows is what i mean

Romero will leave for a free in 2 years
But i agree we would not be getting big fees for the others
I think we have enough players to replace Romero within already although I do think he will thrive so much in a back 3 with freedom
Richy needs to go for his own sake as much as our s

I think .. purely based on the lack of links… we aren’t after one
The only viable one I’ve heard is Rios, the Colombian
I wouldn’t be shocked to see us negate the need for a DM by playing 3 at the back
I don’t think we will keep biss. His contract and history will knock his standing here

...and we had an option on that midfielder from Serville was it? But clearly weren't going to push the boat out to get him.

Would also explain why we are not trying to get Romero sold and sticking to our 70m price. As he would be ideal in such a setup.

However....I am sure Frank is just playing with ideas atm. He won't know what he wants to do yet. He's only seen a handful of players. The pre-season games are going to be fascinating.

That guys gone athletico

Bit late to the rumours this season so sorry if it's already been mentioned.

He's not very scorey or assistey is he?

Having looked at a few highlight reels it seems his team mates have been pretty brick at converting a lot of his potential assists.

I’m not really sold either btw. He looks a player, but not a great output.

I still think the formation change negates the need for that. I'd like to see what the current group look in that setup anyway, as there's no major improvement particularly obvious and readily available.
It doesn't and we still don't know what formation we'll be playing. And because you have no idea of any that would be an improvement and readily available that doesn't mean that there isn't any out there. If the scouting department don't have a few names then what are they doing?

He was his first season with West Ham, last season his numbers dropped off but that was a combination of them being brick and him being played everywhere, including positions he's never played before.

Why we bought him
  • Mohammed Kudus has completed more successful dribbles than any other player in the last two Premier League seasons (216).
  • Only Lamine Yamal (291) won more offensive duels than Mohammed Kudus in the Top 7 Leagues this season (261). Basically only 4 players in Europe have better take on numbers than him.
  • ◉ 95th percentile for successful dribbles ◉ 90th percentile for accurate crosses ◉ 80th percentile for npxG+xA

Re output, pre last season it was decent

23/24 season he scored 17 goals, 7 assists in all comps (similar season before for Ajax)

Yep
It’s that simple
Plus of course he had an idiot manager to start the season with

One of those ten a penny, "looks really talented but doesn't contribute much" kind of players that hang around the PL for a couple of seasons before ending up at Southampton?

The ability is there, elite ball carrier, who can (in two seasons prior to last) score double figures and put in assists as well.

Is he going to do the work to push on and are we going to give him the platform/system to succeed? who knows ..

Even in his first season, he got a few goals in the Europa League which apparently is a poor standard.

In the league first season he had a goal ratio of worse than one in 4 games, and assists worse than one in 5 games. And that was his good season.

He is a decent dribbler, but most of those dribbles end up going nowhere hence why his output isn't very good....

Sterling dribbles a lot too. If you suggest putting him in our team you might need to up your meds.

Feels like an expensive downgrade:

Sterlings numbers are not close to Vini Jr & Yamal in progressive carries.

Very different player to Dejan (I'm expecting Deki to move more central), he's the type of player you are trying to isolate against opposition wide players 1:1 (something we don't have a lot of)

You would want to compare the 22/23 or 23/24 versions of Kudus against whoever you are trying to compare. Last season he was played out of position a lot, in a brick West Ham side under two managers.

Again, he may fail (every player has that risk), but he's a RW/attacking player that has pace, physical, can carry the ball past his man better than any player we have, two seasons of PL experience and has played in all 3 European competitions, he fits a hole in team

Also, 80th percentile? These stats are usually taken from the top 5 leagues, so let's assume 20 teams per league and around 20 in a squad for each team.

So he's in the 80th percentile in a group of around 2,000? There's a hell of a lot of better players in that data set then.

Those are the only included years, those are his stats. Kulu was playing in the league's 4th biggest brickmunchers for over a season of that data too.
