Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Let's see how things go in the second half of the season. With our pressing style i fear we (or at least certain very key players, such as Kane, Dier, Toby, Jan, perhaps Eriksen) could burn-out and crash post February.

I think AVB, whilst not being the most outright attacking/risky of our recent managers seemed to be able to set us up so we didn't have late season burnout.

If you think back to our form in the 2012/13 season, our form was crazy good after that crazy late loss to Everton: only losing 2 our of our remaining 22/23 game would easily have got us 4th in any other season. It was only the fact that Arsenal's form after we beat them was actually obscene/demented that stopped us getting that 4th spot.

Only when we go similarly close with Poch to getting 4th or actually achieving 4th can we start making pronouncements about how Poch is better than AVB. Of course if we want to talk about preffered style and who was more entertaining, by all means we can discuss, but as i said before we should hold back before we start sucking all our (and Poch's) d1cks just yet...

Pochettino's Southampton side picked up 1.42 points per game in the first half of the 13/14 season. In the second half of the season they picked up 1.53 points per game. (Just about certainly statistically a non-significant difference)

Last season we also picked up more points in the second half of the season. Though I wouldn't put much into that as there were a lot of other changes from the first to the second half of the season.

His last two full seasons (at least) at Espanyol did see a rather large drop in form from the first to the second half of each season. That was a rather different situation to ours though with them in financial problems, limited squad, selling their best players etc.

At this point I don't think we need to be more worried about a drop in form than the teams it's fair to compare us to.

I think there are plenty of reasons to praise Pochettino very highly despite us not yet having a final league position beyond 5th to show for it. Describe our current situation to your past self when he took over 18 months or so ago... I think your past self would have been delighted to see this kind of progress.

I know Man Utd are above us in the league but heck, we really dodged a bullet with LVG turning us down for them. Thank goodness for Poch

that's one way of looking at it

you could also say, he has them fighting for a title, what if he had Kane, Eriksen and Toby, what if that midfield had Dier and Alli...

Actually I am not convinced they àre fighting for the title at this stage, especially as they are only 3 points above us. Because if they are then we are, and I do not think we are

I'd say we technically are, but we've played pretty well all season, we've not had any negative issues yet, they haven't got going, LvG is a notorious slow starter and they can afford to improve in Jan, I fully expect their back 9 to be the better half, there are so many people there who have done this all before, our wonderful vibrancy is fuelled partly by naivety

Besides Galeforce after spending over £200m LVG should be battling for the title, so he ain't been impressive

I know you said besides, but, he is, Defense wins championships, they have the best Defense, they are right in this, and after tonight they have one less distraction, I've been saying it for months, I still make them favourites

Just 2 goals or so better than us, like I said if they are so are we. Five goaless draws in their last 8 or so league matches, not impressed. I can easily see us finishing anove them because they are not much better than us

It's only one less distraction if he wants it to be. All their results will be scrutinised now. After spending the money he has and under the pressure he's now under can he afford to take the EL lightly? It could be a millstone round his neck, a tough draw and knocked out and it could all start to unravel big time.

It also occurs to me that another way of looking at things is that the only difference between them and us this season is the three points they got from beating us, and even Man Utd fans will admit that we were the better team on the day.

Bottom line, I do not think either team is anywhere near good enough to win the title this season.

This is not Fergie's Utd, there is nothing special about them and I am not even convinced they will finish in the top 4.

Besides how can they be all that if there plan B is lump the ball forward to Faelani :)

agree with that, absolutely no way either side can WIN the league, however it's possible the better sides might LOSE it and one of us or Leicester will finish top anyway

Last night they tried to attack and only played one DM. Their defense was brick.

Became full how you tread down this line. I can feel the bonfires are pitchforks getting prepped LOL...I would go further to say both teams are under performing given the players we have.

You keep going with your criticism of Poch but fail to back your opinion with any compelling evidence. So I would suggest it is you with the pitch fork.

more evidence of his idiocy, had he selected the team correctly we wouldn't have lost against Chelsea's and we might have won the group

we'll be out next round now
