Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Absolutely but he has managed to largely keep any dissatisfaction or decent from the players away from the media. I think that is a real achievement considering the damage the Adebayor circus did to AVB.

Spot on. I really think he's had to navigate a bit of a quagmire of players not really up for the task, with considerable influence and perhaps attitudes that haven't been good for the club long term.

Whatever has and will happen to those that been moved to the periphery of the match day squads or outright disappeared to the wayside Poch looks all the stronger for it and I think our club will be too. Those in contention for a first team spot are responding really well, we're picking up results and I really think the performances are improving.

Exactly who will be gone come January and the summer is obviously just speculation now. But I think when we in hindsight add up the games per season those who leave clocked up last season I think the proportions of the task that faced Poch when he took over will look a bit clearer. And so far he's "replaced" those players (in terms of actual game time on the pitch, not just as transfers out and in) with youngsters and a handful of fairly cheap, solid, signings.

Thought the Coach deserved a mention as we have played our last game of the year. Arrived at Spurs where the fan base had become so polarised in recent seasons, anti redknapp pro AVB, anti tim you get the drift. He has quietly gone about his work. Not moaned about the quality of the squad, or fans ruining the atmosphere at the stadium despite enduring boos at games such as Palace. He's not told the fans "that this is as good as we'll get" Failed to get some of his 1st choice players in the Summer not heard anything about him being livid, but moved on quickly to suitable alternatives.

Under his watch already players like Harry Kane, Ben Davies and Ryan Mason have blossomed. Eriksen is looking like a world class player, Lamela is still a work in progress but at least he is getting some game time. Poch is astutely rotating the team to deal with the heavy schedule of games something he never had to do at Soton and Both Martinez and Rodgers appear to be struggling with this season.

He has instilled a certain defensive resilience in us and made us joint top scorers of late goals an attribute usually reserved for the scum down the road.

Is every thing perfect? - of course not, our home record needs improving we need to improve our defensive shape in midfield and we need a clinical striker. But we are on 31 points 2 points off 4th, 2 points off the scum and 5 points of a utd side that spent 200 million in the summer.

Is he the one? Who knows, we have had too many false dawns to start making predictions. But I am quietly confident we may have got ourselves one of the best coaches we have ever had at this club. I am going to allow myself a caution toast to Maurizio Pochetino (or however you spell his name) at new year.

Great post. The next game will be a huge test and arguably will demonstrate if there has been progression or not. Early in his tenure we got spanked by Liverpool (the only time this year that they resembled the high velocity team of last year) with Capoue, Kaboul and Ade all drastically underperforming. Personnel wise a lot has changed since then; however broadly the 4-2-3-1 deployed that day is what we will see versus Chelsea and so it will offer us an opportunity to compare if his personnel changes and his training methods and tactics are having the desired result. I am optimistic about our chances in this game and overall am starting to think Poch could be the 'one'.

Great post. Agree with everything you say.

I think Poch is, overall, doing a good job. Lot's of positive signs. And I note the media/the outside are paying this virtually no attention. But **** them - as long as we recognise it.

I am always happiest when we go about our work quietly and think that is even more important to keep the pressure off of such a young team by keeping them out of the spotlight as much as possible. Hopefully we can enjoy the plaudits at the end of the season.

Better LVG get the attention claiming they're still in the title hunt or Rodgers thinking Liverpool are magnificent.

RobSpur. Brilliantly summed up. I was excited initially when we got him but now I think we may have something special on our hands. He is working with a very complex club and doing the right things. This is just 6 months in. The club needs to invest in him fully and the fans have to continue being on his side.

I just wrote a long post applauding this. And it didn't connect on my phone. Probably best. You have said all I feel on him. Very happy with things.

Absolutely this.

Great post!
It's a shame that Poch hasn't been able to record a 'signature victory': that is one that gets even more of the fanbase behind him/giving him time when things get choppy. AVB's was the Manure first away win in 23; Redknapp's was that late 2-1 win against Liverpool when Pav got the late, late winner and of course this came a few days after the 4-4 draw with Arsenal!
If only we'd have been able to hold on at the Emirates. Ah well.

I'm happy with how the first half of the season has gone; here's hoping Poch can get a result against Chelski to start the next half of his first league season in good stead.

Ok rumour.... And it is just rumour.... That klopp has resigned.... I expect next to no one to agree with me as we have had decent results of late, but the performances are still lacking for me.... I would sack pouch if it meant that we could get klopp in.

Yep, makes sense to me to sack a coach sitting in 7th for a coach who is managing a serial CL club so well right now that they are in the German bottom - of and who hasn't managed in the PL before.

Or do you want AVB back after all?

He made them a serial CL club, that's the difference. Don't actually mind (ish) where we are sitting to be honest.... As I have said the results have been good recently. But I'm really not convinced by the performances... Not at all. Normally I would say it would be mad to sack pouch at the present time, but the opportunity to get klop' would be to much for me to turn down.... I would do it... But it would take massive balls for levy to.... Especially with the upturn in results.

So we should add more upheaval to a mess that is slowly being sorted out? Forget about how we are performing and think about how we are performing compared to 2 months ago. This is without the players Pochettino wants and the ones Our new scouting supremo is looking into acquiring!

No guarantee that Klopp will succeed away from Germany either! It's a big gamble to take just because he's available. We need stability and this would just throw the cards on the air again

I do understand that, but to my mind klopp is special, I wouldn't want pouch sacked for just anyone, despite not being impressed by the performances. But I feel than within 6 months the performances should be better then they are now, and I believe that Klopp would be worth the risk... The upside would be ridiculous.

My prediction is Klopp will Flopp wherever he winds up next.

Maybe, but his brand of football is exhilarating IMO. This season aside, where the wheels appear to have come off, I would have classed Dortmund as the the most watchable team in Europe. It would be madness to ditch Poch now but if we did nosedive and Levy fired him Klopp would be top of my list. It would be like having madman at the wheel of a racing car.

Indeed, which makes their current plight all the more galling. It's one thing to have a bad season/start and be say 8th-10th, but to be a serial CL team and then be in the relegation zone at the halfway point in the season??
If Klopp can swing so far with Dortmund (the second biggest club in Germany in financial terms IIRC) how the hell low could he swing with us??

I think his style and persona will likely not so easily translate to the PL, and especially our club with the position we have. Madness to contemplate right now

Klopp is one that all the warning signs are there to stay far far away, in a league where only a small number of teams are competitive, very emotional (English media would have field day), might lose it and alienate everyone, and the wheels have come completely off (again, hints at player/manager issues).

I'm not sold on Poch, but replacing him with Klopp would be completely a punt. The only manager I would blindly replace Poch with right now is Ancelotti (and we can't get him), experienced winner, knows PL, can handle difficult owners, media doesn't get to him and gets players to work together and still plays attractive football.

I wouldn't swap Poch for any coach in the world at this point in time.

This is the first time since Burkinshaw in the late 70s that it feels to me like we are properly structurally reforming and putting the foundations in place to have a sustained and sustainable period of success.

Klopp could easily go all Ramos (who remember was the big up-and-coming great hope coach in Europe at that time).
