Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

To be fair to Jenas, I think he mentioned both. He doesn’t feel either were ready to take the RB slot permanently.

Anyway, it’s an interesting discussion and worth a listen on iPlayer. First 30 minutes of the programme.
They couldn’t be worse than Trippier last season.

I’ll try and take a listen. He usually talks sense. And he was a nice chap when I met him last December! Lol

That Barney Ronay article is surprisingly poor. He’s usually very good. He says it could well be the end, but doesn’t really articulate why. Just ‘coz... we’re 7th after six games, for chrissake, not 17th.

I get we’ve been poor for getting on for 8 months, but surely he deserves time to turn it around, given what he’s given us. Half the first team want out, that’s enough to try anyone’s patience and unsettle the squad. But he does need to tighten up his words in the media as they’re not helping.

Oh well, that’s my twopenneths anyway...

Everyone at the Graun has clearly been ordered to write a “last days of Tottenham” piece. The most elegiac wins a fair trade vegetable hamper. Ronay probably not even placed, considering the other ones they’ve put up.

Jack Pittbrook now writes for The Athletic and pretty much writes nothing but wind up articles about Spurs. He's a butt-hurt City supporter who can't come to grips with all the trouble Spurs have caused City in the past year or so.

Wow , and don’t you have to pay for that privilege too?!!!!

Funny - if you read the comments on any Spurs article in The Guardian it’s full of people who think they have a pro-Spurs agenda.

All about your perspective, I suppose.

They're griping because Spurs are getting any sort of coverage. Ten years or more ago, Spurs only got mentioned when transfer gossip about losing a player got published. Little by little we've taken away column inches and air time from the so-called big four and their fans are unhappy about it and go cloud shouting on The Graun.

We can't really complain about the press speculating about Pochettino's future when fans are doing the same.

I don't think we're at that point yet, I don't know what exactly would be my tipping point, guessing what it would be for Levy is difficult. That conversation popping up isn't strange given our performances and results in the league over the last however many games.

I would be surprised if Levy isn't having a quiet think about how long this can be allowed to continue. Wouldn't be surprised if that also includes quiet conversations about contingency planning.

For now Pochettino deserves the chance to turn it around. As most of our fans seem to agree. But that this even has to be stated means that the press will obviously have stories to write.

True, but tbf that in itself isn't the biggest cardinal sin a manger has had done to them. How many EVER get such wishes in full?
And it is in Poch's gift not to use them if he doesn't want to: he didn't have to play Wanyama last Saturday for example..
It is also within the club gift to push through such outward transfers, lowering prices, fees etc

He spoke of being brave over a year ago. That was as much to do with getting players out quickly IMO. We will never know.

Interesting discussion on the Friday Night Social on 5Live this evening. Jenas made some good points Asked why any top club would sell a right back when they don’t have a right back lined up to come in. It’s a good listen. He seemed to think that Poch and the board have made errors.

Because Trippier wanted to go!!! And given his behaviour in the press, he is not one to keep a lid on himself. I suspect Poch took the view it was best to let him go quickly if he wanted out. Further, and I say this without having listened but am assuming, has anyone mentioned that Foyth was considered the right-back for this season until he got fudged?

Yeah we will, in 3 seasons time when we are all moaning about Brendan Rodgers not playing Parrott. Poch will do a press interview for Madrid where he will talk about things off the cuff at spurs.

I honestly think Poch isn't good enough for real and they would be crazy to get him.
I also believe that there are always better out there so it's not the end of the world if we get megabucks dor losing Poch.

Foyth was mentioned, Steff - Jenas’s question was should Spurs be playing largely untried CBs at RB if they want to push to the next level. He also said it was simple bad business to have Trippier go so early without a plan to properly replace him. He felt we had a long time over the summer to target and buy a quality, proven RB.

Jenas is usually very sensible and positive on us. I thought what he had to say was interesting; I thought the fact he was saying it was even more interesting.

I don't see the confusion. We had another starting RB in Aurier in the squad along with a backup in KWP and potentially Foryth as well.

This is a stupid debate we haven't left ourselves short in this area at all, we were in fact over stocked. It's not even an issue of quality as Trippier was himself awful defensively.
