Mathys Tel

Again I don’t see the big deal in Tel doesn’t do anything that well… i could be wrong. Just my opinion. Not bothered if he goes back.

Sometimes its hard to tell with players of that ilk. Son was mediocre his first year (though he was carrying an injury). No one still seems to know which way Johnson's career is going to go.

Tel could explode into a Bale, or fade into a Njie. Hopefully Lange and Paratici have seen enough of him up-close to be able to make the correct call.

I agree he doesn't look like the next incarnation of Ronaldo YET but "luckily" the club have had a really sustained period to assess what he is like in training, what his raw skill level is, what his personality is, how driven he is, etc etc, so whether Spurs choose to buy or not, it is probably the right decision at this moment.

He might turn out to be exceptionally good or meh, but we've assessed him really well this year and will make a call based on all the behind-the-scenes things we haven't seen.

Hoping we sign him permanently. Seems like he does actually like it here.

When Mbuemo is rumoured to be available for around 50m can't help but feel Tel isn't really justifiable
Indeed Mbuemo is great but unlikely to come here if other rumoured teams interested go in for him. And it does sound as though we want to negotiate the fee down, and Mbuemo is 5 years older so that has to be taken into account. Whilst Tel hasn't set the world alight, to me it appears he has a lot of quality and in a year or two having got much more to grips with the PL (I think some people really underappreciate just how difficult it can be to adapt to this league) he will be growing into a seriously good player. Of course Mbuemo would be the preference considering he is ready made, but I don't see why Tel can't reach his levels in the not too distant future.(I appreciate we would like to sign ready made stars, just that Tel would not be a bad alternative for our model).

If we could even get the fee down to say 40m, I would be willing to take on that bet that he far exceeds that value by the time he is say 22. In fact, I think he would continue to grow next season and look really good - he looks to have all the right attributes to me, physically strong and decent technique...

60m - no
40m - no
30m - maybe

He is not a starter. He needs time.

If we don't think he's a £60m player then we shouldn't be going for him.

Not saying we shouldn't try to negotiate it down but if we don't see him at that level then why would we want him?

That goes for any player

More to the point we already have Odobert, Son, Moore, Gil and Solomon for the left attacker role. Sure not all of them will stay but do we really need another left sided attacker and yet a other one that is far from the finished article as it is.

I'd happily take him on loan for another season and maybe even include a games played related obligation so that it gives him some certainty and us an escape clause if he still continues to largely underwhelm. He has some potential but I'm not really seeing the massive upside some seem to detect. He hasn't really shown any outstanding qualities as it stands.

Any funds allocated for Tel would be better spent on a DM or right sided attacker imo.
