Mathys Tel

If Tel has a say then it is not an option to buy. But we have an option and he can't stop the option being exercised but it has been agreed to discuss it with him before triggering the option.
I think this is pretty much it.

He didn't want a permanent departure from Bayern (understandable, big club etc)
Bayern though were happy for him to move and ideally permanently (probably communicating he will struggle for game time)
We wanted him as he looks a talent and can help us right now.
So WE come up with something that hurdles the impasse and keeps all parties happy.
Bayern get a fee they'll be happy with.
Tel gets game time
He gets the chance to impress us (and Bayern)
We get the chance to impress him
All forward steps come the summer are open. (Even if this is a slight ploy to get him to come).

It will be interesting to see what happens if he tears it up in the next 5 months.

(He'll be on the blower to Harry 'well I did tell you to watch out for the gentlemens agreements')

Yeah. It's an option with regards to Bayern, but only partially so with Tel himself. Schrodinger's option.

If he is a hit here we could always sign him but give a contract with bayern having first refusal, if he is still dead set on going back to Bayern.

Yeah I’m hoping it’s an option, but we have a “gentleman’s agreement” to discuss it with him first… mwahahahahha (evil laugh)

Bayerns announcement said this:

“Bayern forward Mathys Tel has joined English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season. The deal includes the option for Spurs to complete a permanent transfer.”

Which sounds like we (and us alone) can decide to buy him. Is that not true?

It is true. Just that we have agreed to discuss it with Tels first.

After reading numerous conversations about us being an unattractive option but then reading thru the runners and riders whom were after Tel...he chose us. Go figure

It's either ''the president' or 'the manager' doing good work. (as Tel noted)....but let's just imagine it's both, and the set-up is working as planned.

The same set-up that got Radu to choose us over Bayern
And Bergvall to choose us over Barca.

Little old unattractive us.
You'd think this would teach people the importance of patience (like waiting for the end of the window before commenting, but also other issues in general), but it won't.

-Have patience. All things are difficult before they become easy.

-A man who is a master of patience is master of everything else.

-Have patience with all things, But, first of all with yourself.

-The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.

-Patience is necessary, Levy cannot reap immediately where he has sown.

This sums it up. I think we should enjoy him for the next six months but prepare ourselves for him to either be back at bayern or another club next season

One of the journos who's had some detail around this has said the following:

Daniel Levy flew to Munich last week because Johan Lange feared that his meeting and presentation with Mathys Tel didn’t have the desired impact.
After meeting with Levy, Tel communicated that he wasn’t going to join Spurs. It was as much about showing that he wouldn’t be forced into something by Bayern as it was about not being convinced by Spurs.
Sunday evening, Ange Postecoglou spoke with Tel over the phone. Postecoglou put forward how he planed to use Tel, expressed how much he valued Tel’s versatility and speed, and expressed that he thought Tel could torment Premier League defences with his qualities. It was a long and concrete speech, and it ‘scored points’ with Tel, who appreciated the coach focusing on his plans for him on the pitch, as opposed to the ‘project’ that the management tried to sway him with.
Monday morning, the player decided he was going to Tottenham.

If Bayerns manager stays the same, I don't think it is likely Tel will rejoin them. And if he is doing well with us, he seems the kind of guy who appreciates stability and will commit long-term. Anything is possible, but we should be in the driving seat if all goes well.

Makes sense. Lange and Levy can probably speak convincingly on the overall project/structure. But only the manager can speak convincingly about how he plans to use the strengths of any given player on the pitch. Good that we got everyone involved.

If true… what I like about that is Lange being able to read the room and realize his pitch may not have gone well. Holding his hands up and saying we need another approach. Impressive… if true.

I hope you're right. Anyway, step one is him doing well for us otherwise it's all moot

Lange: You ain't got no problem, Mathys. I'm on the motherfudger. Go back in there, chill them n*****s out and wait for the Wolf who should be coming directly.

I think you make a great point. I assume Tel was Tuchel's signing and now Kompany is at the helm.

So Tel's worst nightmare is Ange and Kompany getting fired and Kompany replacing Ange :)

Two things:
1) Doesn't anyone here care that he did a U-turn? From what I've read on here, it doesn't seem to be the case at all. My own personal opinion is that I was slightly displeased that he rejected us at first, although it's not like I could feel hard done by or anything... we're a bit of a mess and I wouldn't hold it against him if he didn't want to join us. Now that he's decided to join on loan though, I'm actually quite happy although I'm not too excited long-term because...

2) ...I don't think he will end up sticking around. The irony is that we have a player like Werner on loan who we don't really want but who seemingly doesn't have many choices with regards to what club he can end up at, while Tel is in very high demand. All I hope for is that something clicks with him here at the club and he ends up feeling settled and wanting to join permanently.

That's all you had to say.

I read last week that he was reeling from the rejection by BM wanting to ship him out and given a couple of days thinking time would agree to join us after all. I wasn't surprised to see that this person was correct. It just made sense.

Mathys just needed to think about the box in his head that he had put BM in. When he got his head around it, he realised that it was perfectly OK to move on.

I'm certain Lange had figured this all out and was why he put Levy on that plane. Great execution by our technical director who read the room.
