Mathys Tel

Hearing the option might be exercised only after having a conversation with the player. Weakens our position BUT if earlier reports are to be believed he stated he still wanted to have a crack at making it at Bayern.

I think we (and all parties) are trying to keep everyone happy here. (If my first paragraph is true)
And I think that's the right way to do it. Would want him to join permanently because he sees his future with us, not because contractually he's got no other option.

But he would have had that option before he joined us now. So if it was pre agreed option with him then that’s when he made his mind up and decided that his future lay with us. I’d think that if he then decided he didn’t want to stay, we would have to be evil to then sign him irrespective of that wish. So either way, I think it is ultimately down to both the club and player but a pre agreement contract is there only if the player had agreed to the prospect of staying at the club if the option was exercised.

Welcome. Please be awesome and stay for a long time.

Think this is a very good signing. Super talented player, hasn't fully blossomed yet, though perhaps in part because he's been competing with Kane. Already has a decent amount of experience and seems like a good fit to both the PL and our system. Gives us a much needed option short term, and potentially much more in time.

Will be interesting to see where he's used most. Perhaps primarily a striker, but think he can be good wide for us too.

Technically that may be true
But it’s money we would have banked on
Nuts how people perceive the bad in everything
That's just good business sense. I don't get how signing a player for money owed to us is anything other than clever.

Tel is one of the best players in his age group in Europe. A steal, if he buys fully into Ange mode (which allegedly swung him in the first place) then we have the steal of the season.

Huge financial commitment too if we take up the deal
We arent city but seeing united and arsenal balk at paying the loan fee and then not play a striker is odd
Arsenal mania having a meltdown about Tel signing and the fact they haven't signed anyone.

Tbh I'm not sure why they haven't signed anyone but it's hilarious none the less. A bit like when we signed no one (or did we) to get us over the line when we were fighting for the league.

It's even more odd as they have a few of their forwards out and played without a forward in their last match (not that it impacted them then sadly).

Yeah. And if not good business sense, neutral business sense. That money was coming in anyway, spending it on Tel or someone else doesn't matter much financially I think. It's not like that means we're not spending money.

Agreed that he could be fantastic if he buys in and is signed permanently. And I think most likely he will at the very least be a really useful option this season, though imo more likely even more than that.

I still can't get my head around this one. Surely, we took the Kane profit in a set of posted accounts in the past. Now we're taking from the BM debt to stop our own transfer debt from increasing, both for the loan part in this fiscal and the permanent transfer in next. Then that transfer fee gets amortised over the length of the player contract, which are charges to the P&L. The cashflow side is easy to understand. How it changes our profit and loss in things like PSR is a little harder to digest as we've already taken the Kane profit.

Even cashflow, I'm guessing there won't be £50m worth of credit left in the Kane deal. BM would have paid so much up front and have already cleared 18 months of payments.

Multi-year, it all comes out in the wash I guess. It just feels like a great move on the footballing side.

Sadly, dialectics matter don't they. I don't understand how hard it is for people to hold two perspectives; there is rarely a single truth. Whatever anyone thinks of Levy, this is an example of him coming through and delivering. Which should absolutely be acknowledged!
Astonishingly hard sometimes at least I think is the answer.

It happens to all of us, to varying degrees of course. On various topics.

It's part of the human condition.

We bank the Kane money as profit in year 1
So that what’s figures are “higher” for PSR
But for tax and income purposes we bank it as it comes in
The purchase though is done over the length of a contract up to a maximum of 5 years
So €60m over 5 years/€12m a year PSR value
Of which some of that is in this seasons figures because of the loan fee
The balance of what they owe us us purely accounting now and doesn’t matter because they owe what they owe

I think the unstable and overly emotional ones will be having a meltdown yea, we've got our share of those types as well - it's more predictable than hilarious for me but each to their own. The difference is they're regularly competing for the title beyond October.

Good signing to complete a solid window. I guess we're just hoping some midfielders will suddenly becone consistently reliable players, but we can't fix it all in a couple (reads 4) windows. On Tel However it pans out the lad will be motivated to make an impact and we need people to do just that. Along with Odobert / Moore, we've got quite an exciting array of young attacking players, plenty to be positive about. A bit of a shame if Dragu is out long term as it's purely one step forward and one step back with Danso but it is what it is.

Like others I'm glad we have a buy option here.

Agree completely.

Our midfielders are pretty decent when they want to be, it's just they aren't consistent. Funny how some after a few bad games say Sarr is bad yet we needed him to come on and win the game effectively for us against Brentford.

I'll be one to hold my hands up and say I am emotional which may come as a shock to most on here, jokes aside we are no where near complete and Ange said it will take a few more windows didn't he.

Also not all transfers work out so these fans that want instant turnaround with 7 signings, go back to when Bale was sold and we spunked all of the money on those signings.

Lamela and Eriksen can only really be seen as the successful ones there IMO.

I also think if you gradually do it rather than instantly you don't have too many cooks spoiling the broth kind of thing.

We addressed 3 of our weaknesses and would say we have a few more left maybe a strong tackling CM and maybe a LB, but Spence looks equally comfortable there.

I posted it already somewhere, but I'd compare Tel to Kulu, but with a more potent shot. Obviously a bit younger (5 years younger than Kulu), just as strong, just as happy running at defenders, just as powerful, and able to bustle and trick his way through.

The question is whether Tel can take that step on to become an elite finisher. The video above with Kane's second hand info is interesting, suggests he has an ethic and determination - which is what made Kane. Hopefully our coaches can help to unleash his potential. Tel is a bit raw, but at 19 what would you expect!

Great signing. We'll need to show some patience, but we have a very decent PL player as is, and if he can refine his play, he could become a top player.

I hope he has more pace than Kulu, it's the one thing that would really add to his game but obviously can't do much about it.

This sounds like a great signing, hopefully he performs well and we can convince him to stay. Potential long term replacement for Son.

He has more pace! Yes. Can he be an assassin in front of goal? That is what we need. Only Son is a top finisher in the team. We need focused finishing from our forwards. Johnson did step up at times to be fair. Maddison too, but is streaky. Kulu needs to nail his finishing. Tel potentially has that Kane quick shot on him which can be so potent. Getting the shot away before defenders and keeper are set.
