Despite all that, he still got away with one yesterday when he lost his man and just lunged at him and thankfully missed. In fairness, Lucas also thundered in with a challenge which -if it had connected- would likely have been a red. Lucas is learning, and in general had a great game. Biss needs to cut it out!

I have a feeling Gray might end up staying as a centre half. Just a hunch.

That’s not his strongest position so would be a waste if it happens. I think instead playing as a centre back will have significantly aided his defensive awareness and he’ll be a stronger ‘number 6’ for the experience, whilst also being good on the ball.

Agreed. Was mostly really good. A couple of moments where his lack of experience showed, but a lot of moments where his quality was even more obvious.

I seriously doubt Ange plans on using him there - but this set of unforeseen circumstances has allowed him to get some valuable experience of the PL and show that he can genuinely cover the CB position if needs must on occasion....

Think Bergvall and Gray both have qualities that could see them develop into really good deep playmakers.

Both equally have qualities that can see them develop elsewhere. More box to box role for both, perhaps a 10 role for Bergvall and perhaps a full back role for Gray.

Both seem to have a good appetite for and good qualities for the defensive side of the game too. Great to see.

Still curious about what Gray could do in the deepest role in midfield for us now. But it's a very demanding role and I wouldn't be surprised if it's still a bit early for him.

Both have now done enough to be counted not just as registered squad players, but imo bona fide squad players that will hopefully be used when/if this current injury brickstorm passes. Should be great options to have and curious to see if one or both of them can step up even further this season.

There is also massive question marks whether the players that play the 8 and 10 roles stop stitching their team mate up, by never having the smarts to cover for them if they do vacate that space. The full-backs only come in so far, and we still see players running at our centre halves. That shouldn't happen.

It would shock me to be honest (other than in an emergency, injury situations). He has many of the attributes, but it's a rather specialist role he has little to no experience playing in. One that most players need time and experience in to play well in.

Bentancur at his best is a fantastic player. Yet to see him he a fantastic 6. He too has a lot of the attributes to play there technically and physically. But in that role you need consistency in decision making and awareness, on the ball and defensively. Discipline and positioning along with some tempo setting/playmaking qualities. Perhaps he can get there, he's not had that much time to grow into a role like that. But he's doesn't seem a natural fit to the role so far.

i have been banging the drum fo a long while now about really needing a player who is a proper DM, it would make us a far better team and take some of the pressure from our defensive players. Said on here that Bents is the nearest we have to that but imo we really do need to bring one in and soon.
