Lucas Bergvall

He has changed his profile a bit in the last two games being more physical and commanding IMO
That will help him long term and may mean more opportunities short term

Totally agree. The last few outings have been very enncouraging, and I liked him today in that deeper role (played a couple of really nice balls). I think he could well get a nod at 6 next weekend. With Gray behind him at CB!!!!!

It’s possible
With the players missing anything is TBF

Very different role to come on there when we're throwing (whatever may be left of) caution to the wind and chasing to get back into a game, compared to playing there when a game is tighter.

But I do think Bergvall has done enough in recent (short) sub appearances to get more game time going forward. Seems like he can be trusted more in the PL soon too, not just the EL.

Another good sub appearance. Interesting that Ange said he would have started if not for illness.

Great to see him playing well again, could be both needed and useful. Different circumstances and game state, wasn't playing with tired legs like Bissouma was. But still, thought he showed purpose and took responsibility in a way that Bissouma and Bentancur failed to do. While also keeping it simple when needed.

He done very well when he came on last night and the team played much better while he was on the pitch - I'd be looking to give him a run as a starter as the senior players in front of him aren't performing.
Would expect him to struggle more perhaps if starting a game. More differing game states and situations to deal with and not coming on with fresh legs against tiring legs.

But he's certainly putting himself in contention. And a few of the others are also putting him in contention by not performing particularly well.

Would not be surprised to see him start against Southampton. Running really low on options anyway. Guess the other possibility is Sarr, Kulusevski and Maddison in midfield?

I'll be shocked if that isn't the chosen trio. It certainly won't be any of the other players currently fit.

Bissouma and Bentancur might have some competition for their starting places from this kid… and probably Gray too once he’s no long required to fill in for our hamstrung defenders.

Don't think he was anywhere near POTM personally. He was decent enough, faded a lot once he got shoved into the post in the first half. Definitely progressing well after a slow start to life here though....

Just asking to vote for your POTM

That's between Spence and Maddison for me.

TNT gave it to Maddison, but I thought it was Spence deserved it.

On Bergvall, he did well, but I don't think that will be his position when everyone is fit.

More Kulusevski (when central) or Maddison role.

Did well.

Faced very little adversity in a game that was essentially over after 15 minutes. But he did well and looked comfortable in that role. Great to see. Still only 18 and a fantastic talent. Great to see him translate that into PL games.

Even though the game ended up being very comfortable for us it was a pressure situation for sure to be starting that game. Very good experience for him.

Looking forward to seeing more of him.

Ah yeah thanks for correcting me, Spence deserved it for putting in such a performance coming in from the cold but purely on performance I don't think you can look past Maddison. When he plays well we play well....

I thought Bergval was nowhere near it tonight and shows the step up to the best league in the world for a young kid. No doubt he can play but positionally he was all over the place, always 5 yards out of position.

That said his ability with the ball was good and i think his stats will probably show he had an excellent game.
