Kyle Walker

Kyle's the first Spurs player to average over 70 passes a game since Modric in 2011/12, hopefully as the season progresses we'll see Eriksen take on that mantle as I'm not too keen on having Walker and Dawson (currently the only other player averaging over 60 passes per game) as the top passers in the team.

Will depend on his position. Even against Norwich, where we had what must have been an almost unprecedented (for us) number of passes, he "only" attempted 52 passes. Now we might see that increase as he continues to settle in, but we might also see that number drop significantly against better opponents and different game situations. It's just rare for players that spend most of their time in the final third to rack up a ton of passes. If he's moved to a deeper role we might see him get close to those Modric numbers.

A more likely candidate for the new top passer in the team seems to be to be Capoue if he becomes a regular starter in that deep role. Tied for first in all of League 1 last season in that regard and topped our passing numbers against Swansea and was only barely behind Walker and Dawson against Arsenal.

part of avb's sttrategy is for the wing backs to join in the attack.
our defence is essentially two CBs and two CMs.
so get used to walker up there passing the ball around

This. Our system is reliant on the athleticism of Rose and Walker to motor up and down the pitch (one at a time) linking the CBs, CMs, and WFs (and also running past all of them to the byline), this is where the high number of passes comes from. Not from Walker being some pass master, although he and Townsend have provided a few sumptuous reverses to release each other this season already which is very encouraging.

It is true that most of the Premier League' top passers are more deep lying midfielders with only Carrick, Arteta and Yaya averaging over 70 passes per game last season. Although Williams and Rangel of Swansea were the 4th and 5th highest passers the previous season so perhaps Dawson and Walker will get in the Top 5 this season...

Eriksen was only on the pitch for 71 minutes against Norwich so probably would've got lots more touches against a tiring Canary defence and perhaps he'll drop deeper against the top teams, like Cazorla does for the Goons, which will see him get more touches. Dembele attempted the 2nd most passes on Saturday (84 in 83 minutes) so hopefully the deeper lying role will see him back to his best and more Yaya like in his influence on games.

Stupid booking last night means he misses the next England game.
Talented footballer but he does something dumb every game.
All players make mistakes but he drops more clangers than a clanger dropper.

Played very well last night, him and Townsend seem to get each other. Glad he picked up the booking myself, he'll get some rest before the real football starts again.

same here. wonder if walker was smart enough to have considered deliberately putting himself out.

Considering Walker does this every match (and Montenegro had one of their best chances from the subdequent freekick, its like clockwork with Kyle!), I think it was just Kyle being Kyle.

Good performance yesterday though.

I thought he was our worst player last night along with Lampard. His positional sense is so bad that it's a blessing he's so quick as his pace gets him out of trouble. As many others have said, he does something stupid on almost a weekly occasion, usually needless fouls. The question is, how long do we accept bad performances from him and put it down to poor form or do we eventually come to the realisation that he isn't good enough?

Wow. I thought overall he had a very good game last night and did an excellent job giving Townsend full protection for the first half...yes, silly free-kick but defenders do give them away.

His awol marking and appetite for shooting himself in the foot are probably too deeply embedded in his dna to change now. Shame, he could've been a very decent RB.

He is still young enough to learn and adapt especially when players dont reach their peak till the late 20s, he has all the ingredients to be a top player just needs ot put it all together
