Joao Paulinha

It annoys me that people call him Paulinha rather than Palhinha.
Even this thread title is wrong.

At the Reading game the Spurs fan behind me was talking about "Kudos".
Predictably he didn't know who Devine and Donley were.

That's another one, Donley, not Donely nor Donelly nor Donnelly.

Donley not Donley, got it.

Not always we agree on football matters but that would be a class move imo..

We need some experience in midfield, the future may be looking rosy and now is kind of important too. This would plug a bigger gap than MGW.
The onlý thing i worry about is his ability with the ball. He's a bit 'better Hojbjerg' rather than a Carrick. But it would be a different option, in the mix with Gray and Bentancur for that position

He is very good at being physical
He isn’t strong at the other sides of his game and IMO Hojbjerg is a better passer
As a stop gap for a year it’s a good idea

My preference definitely would be more of a playmaker type, but if we can't get that I think Palhlinha makes a lot of sense. Good age profile for our young squad assuming not massively expensive. A natural "DM". A real pain to play against in more ways than one.

Would perhaps struggle a bit with ball progression, but if we do get MGW/someone similar, we already signed Kudus and hopefully Bergvall and/or Gray will continue to step up. Should leave us stronger with regards to ball progression than last season at least.

Would be a slight concern for Sarr if it happens imo. Next to a Wharton style playmaker I think Sarr could really thrive, next to a destroyer type he's not the best fit imo.
