January transfer window wishlist

Arguably the best CB in the league playing out of position?

A system that requires an attacking FB with high stamina and speed utilising a 6'2" CB there?

It's a highly specialised position in our system IMO. In fact I'd almost rather see Townsend or Lennon used there than I would Verts.

I don't think he is the best CB at Spurs let alone in the league, he might be one of the best LB's though.

I definitely agree with keeping Soldado as a very clear #1.
For me it depends. I have faith that the guy will start to find the net before too long, but right now he's scored 1 goal from open play in 9 league starts. There are another 9 league games before the window opens. If he's only scored one more by January...? Are you saying you wouldn't want to consider dropping Soldado to the bench and bringing in someone new who could at least challenge him for the starting spot? Ideally forcing Soldado to raise his game, but capable of stepping up if he doesn't.

Because 1 goal from open play every 9 starts isn't good enough for our first choice striker (I'm happy about the penalties too of course, but it's the ones from open play that speak of his skill as a striker). And if he's still scoring at that rate by January then we need to think about making a change.

Once again though, I don't believe it'll come to that. By Christmas I think we'll be seeing a better goal return from our attacking players. I certainly hope so!

If we replace him with a similar forward it makes no sense though because the problem isn't that Soldado is wasting chances, it's that he's not getting enough of them. Like we saw when we replaced him with Defoe in the league that got us nowhere.

If we decide that we need a Benteke type man mountain forward to make it work then fair enough, but to me that should be more seen as an option in the squad, not as a replacement for Soldado.

Gutter Boy made the point in another thread that AVB has seemingly preferred strikers somewhat similar to Soldado both at Porto (Falcao) and at Chelsea (Torres) as well as giving a lot of game time to Defoe last season. I think he will, rightly, keep trusting Soldado and try to make our overall play function better before making any radical changes in terms of first choice strikers.

Would adore Draxler. Don't want Hernandez.

Draxler is a great player, but he's only just signed a new contract and would cost well in excess of £30m.

I think Hernandez would be ideal cover/competition for Soldado, basically a huge upgrade on Defoe

if we continue playing the way we do then we dont need a poacher type like Soldado, Defoe or Hernandez

we would be better off with a more technical forward who can hold the ball up and link up better with the likes of Lamela, Eriksen, Sig, Chadli, Lennon and Townsend. Maybe bring Paulinho more into the picture too

Hernandez? another poacher who we will fail to play to his strengths, he'll get next to nothing in regards to service and will be asked to play a totally different role which will inevitably cause fans and the media to label him a failure.

I saw an article linking us to Hulk. It was in the BBC saturday gossip I think but is not available on my computer for some reason

The Daily Star is reporting that Tottenham are in the running to buy Ukrainian international, winger Yevhen Konoplyanka for £15m

I do like him, kinda... but let's try Chadli and Lamela first before buying another winger/AM. As strange as it sounds I don't really want us doing anything in January, I want AVB to get this expensively assembled group of players playing like a team first.

wouldnt mind perhaps some youngers who fit our system. Halilovic obviously the biggest preference.

The agent of highly rated young striker Valmir Berisha has told the media interest is strong in his client with Tottenham linked

Jackson Martinez has hinted he would be willing to depart FC Porto with Tottenham being linked along others

We need CLASS PLAYERS. The good part is that we only need them in midfield as the rest of the team can compare itself to any team without a problem. Would like us to buy just 1 player but a focken legend. There are at least 50 players around the world just in the midfield area better then ours. 1 of them has to accept to play for Spurs, so Baldiniiii go get him tiger :D

Such as? (who would come to us in January that is gettable and we could afford the wages of)

We've just bought:

Paulinho
Capoue
Eriksen
Chadli
Lamela

and already have:

Sandro
Dembele
Holtby
Lennon
Townsend
Sigurdsson

That's a midfield squad most teams would dream of.

I said 50 midfield world players are probably better than our ours. Most of them would not come to Spurs for a reason or another. But I am sure 1 of them would come... Who ? It's up to Baldini to find out... Thomas Muller ? Reserve at Bayern he might be look for a team where he would play, he would be a great addition to the team. South America, look at Oscar, he came from South America, I am sure there are players there especially in the midfield area that would find their way into our first 11...
